How About the USS Robert E. Lee, USS Stonewall Jackson and USS Hunley?
AUGUST 4, 2020
** Gaston Co. commissioners support relocation of Confederate monument. (North Carolina)
** Richmond judge dismisses one Confederate monument, allows another to stand.
** Removal of Confederate monument in Huntsville 'is going to happen', councilman says. (Alabama. Mr. Culver is a black man.)
** Rapides Police Jury seeks to be declared owner of Confederate monument. (Louisiana. On July 21, the Alexandria City Council voted to remove it.)
** Letter: Confederacy was a noble cause.
** Witt: renaming military posts carries a cost. (Of interest, he says three forner U.S. submarines were named after Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and George Dixon (the commander of the submarine Hunley). Also a submarine tender was named the USS Hunley. Actually, I looked them up as I had never heard of them before. The George Dixon was the name of a submarine tender, not a submarine.
All of these ships are no longer in commission.)
