Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

It's the Civil War All Over Again

MAY 7, 2022

**  Confederate gets new name.  (Confederate Motors now to be called Curtis Motorcycles.  Personally I think the name should be changed to Tubmans.)

**  Column:  Silent Sam still looms over campus.  (I thought it had been illegally taken down.)

**  See how many Confederate memorials  still exist in New Mexico.  (Another SPLC list.  But, they won't make up a list showing how much damage was done during the summer of 2020 when the BLMers were busy rioting, looting and burning.)

In case you're wondering, New Mexico has two Confederate memorials.

Confederate Flags in Canada, Time Capsules, Austin and the N.C. State Alma Mater Song

FEBRUARY 19, 2022

**  Black drivers who saw this Confederate flag in London, Ontario, have a message for homeowner.  (Canada.  Yet, we have to look at BLM signs, flags, tee shirts all over the place.  That offends me.  But, I don't count because I'm white.  Everybody knows only Blacks can be offended these days.)

**  Workers find a  box under Jefferson Davis Confederate monument.  (Sad R.)

**  Austin's Confederate Avenue will be renamed.  (Texas)

**  NC State removes  Confederate term Dixie from  alma mater song.  (Gosh.  The offending words were "Where the winds of Dixie softly blow o'er the fields of  Caroline."  At least they didn't say cotton (you know, slaves picking it).  Maybe change it to the "winds of BLM or George Floyd.")

MAY 19, 2021

**  Alabama police issue arrest warrant over stolen Confederate monument.  (That chair again.)

**  Community activists urge Florence City Council members to move Confederate monument.  (Alabama.  Well, at least they are urging and not demanding.  Again, how do you get to be a community activist?)

**  Anti-Confederate protesters march at SMPA.  (Sand Mountain, Alabama)

**  Maryland's racist, pro-Confederate  state song has been repealed.  ("Maryland, My Maryland" is out.  Might I recommend "We Is Woke, Oh We Is Woke" as a replacement.  And, it goes to the same tune.)

This Should Be Maryland's New State Song: 'We Is Woke, Oh We Is Woke. Great God Almighty, We Is Woke'

And, you can even keep the tune you already have and just change the words.

I've heard "Maryland, My Maryland" many times over the years, but to tell the truth, never paid much attention to the words.  After looking at the lyrics, I have to agree that they are very Confederate and anti-anything Union.  Yep, they need changing.  Maybe something along the lines of all this "Woke" stuff these days.

Or, something extolling the wonders of the state or things to be proud of would be good as well.
But, I just read a commentary by a commentator "General Assembly faces the music, votes to shame that tune."

I take it, he does not like the state song.  "And so it was  with 'Maryland, My Maryland,' an ode  to the Confederacy, or a Civil War regional fight-song, a seventh-rate song by a third-rate poet,  set to a plagiarized  melody, 'Lautiger Horatius,' or 'O Tannenbaum,' better known to American ears as 'O Christmas Tree.'  Take your pick."

With my song, which goes right along with "O Christmas Tree," all you have to do is change the words.

Only Its Hairdresser Knows if That Fountain Is a Confederate in Disguise. 'We Is Woke, Baby' About That School Mascot in Minnesota

APRIL 3, 2021

**  Lexington City Council wants to test the waters renaming Confederate themed streets.   (Virginia.  Yep, Ol' Virginny.  Don't surprise me none."  You know that SPLC, BLM and the NAACP will back you 100%.)

**  MN  school's 'Rebel' mascot  to change after comparisons to  Confederate soldier.  (Dilworth, Minnesota.

**  Event to urge removal of Confederate monuments.   (Gettysburg, Pa.  Planned for April 9.  Ridiculous.)

**  Making the case that Corpus Christi's Coppini  fountain is not  a Confederate memorial.  (Texas.  Is it or isn't it.  Only its hairdresser knows for sure.)

**  Shore lawmakers split on push to toss Maryland's Confederate  themed  state song.  (It would be too bad if they drop it as it is a good state song, even though definitely pro-Confederate, but look at when it was written.  Maryland could be considered to be an "occupied" state.  At least, keep the tune and change the words.  You know, "We Is Woke, Oh We Is Woke, Thank God Almighty We Is Woke!!")

The Confederacy Under Attack: Maryland, Laws and State Song, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Police

 MARCH 31, 2021

**  Maryland law would ban swastikas, Confederate flags, hate symbols in public.  (And, those laws should also cover anything with BLM on it.  If that's not a hate symbol I don't know what one is.)

****************************************

APRIL 1, 2021

**  St. Clair Shores woman says neighbor put up Confederate flag over  political differences.  (Michigan)

**  Pennsylvania police officer  filmed TikTok defending Confederate flag while on duty.  (Definitely not something to do while you're at work.)

**  Shore lawmakers  split on push to toss Maryland's Confederate  themed state song.  (I thought the bill to eliminate it had already passed.)

'We Is Woke, Oh We Is Woke, Great God Almighty, We Is Woke' New State Song in Maryland. Georgia, Confederate Flags, Kenny Wayne Shepherd

MARCH 21, 2021

**  Demonstrators demand removal  of Confederate symbol in Decatur.  (Georgia.  They're upset about a cannon.  It says on a plaque that it is a relic of the Indians Wars, but was donated by the UDC.  They don't like that.

**  Maryland  Senate votes to retire Confederate state song that refers to Lincoln as a 'tyrant.'  (The new state song should be "We Is Woke, We Is Woke.  Thank God Almighty, We Is Woke.")

**  Confederate national, battle flags aren't the same thing.

**  Kenny Wayne  Shepherd's  Music Award nomination rescinded over Confederate flag imagery.  (So?)

**  Greg Harton:  Arkansas has one too many stars in its flag.  (One star represents the Confederacy and, of course, the Democrats and their BLM allies don't like that.)

******************************************

MARCH 22. 2021

**  Baylor to release  report Tuesday on representations of racist roots.  (Baylor University in Texas.  One of the main things they want is the removal of the statue of Robert Baylor, who founded Baylor.  They may also have to change the name of their school.)

**  New commission on renaming Confederate bases gets early makeover.  (Biden administration has replaced Trump appointees.  Politics anybody?)

**  County officials say they will deal with Confederate issue.  (Lake County, Florida.)

**  Vance Monument:  Asheville to take final vote  on obelisk honoring racist Confederate governor.  (North Carolina.  You can kind of tell whose side the newspaper is on with that headline.  City council will vote on it so it is a goner.  Too bad they don't have the courage to actually put it up for a people's vote.  But, those are typical Democratic, BLMer tactics.)

**  Florida artist John Sims demands  change through art , writing.  (A black guy.  Hates all things Confederate.  Had a show in Gettysburg  "The proper way to hang a Confederate flag" where he hung the flag from the gallows.  He'd better hope der Bubba doesn't see that.)

Trump Vetoes Defense Bill. Big Surprise There. 'Roll Tide' and 'Gator Bait', A Big Surprise from Virginia

DECEMBER 23, 2020

**  From 'Roll Tide' to 'Gator Bait', college football reckons with problematic traditions.  (These are Confederate or Antebellum-related.  Very interesting article.  I will write about it soon in my Saw the Elephant: Civil War blog.

**  Show of force on US streets and crisis at Fort Hood tested army secretary this year.  Also renaming Confederate bases.

**  Trump vetoes colossal $740 billion defense bill, breaking with Republican-led Senate.  (He did as he said he would do, evidently.  Again, I am in favor of renaming the bases, but, please not all black people.  Regardless of how good a man the Confederate officers were, the fact is that they still chose to fight their country.)

**  Fort Benning is named for a slave-owning secessionist.  That could soon change.  (Georgia)

**  Warner:  'I look forward' to overriding Trump's veto of defense partly over Confederate issue.  (Senator Mark Warner of Virginia.  From Virginia?  Surprise.  He's a Democrat?  Another surprise.)

The Second Civil War: Portsmouth, Illinois, Congress, Tennessee, Maryland and Florida

AUGUST 27, 2020

**  Portsmouth begins taking down Confederate monument.  (Virginia.  It will be relocated.  NAACP ecstatic.  Sadly, the city left the monument with all the BLM hate crimes committed on it.   Glad it was removed.)

**  House Democrat introduces bill to replace Confederate  monuments nationwide.  (Bobby Rush, U.S. House of Representatives, from Illinois.  Apparently wants them replaced with monuments to Blacks.   I am totally surprised that a Democrat would introduce something like this.  Oh, and by the way, he is a black man.  Another big surprise.)

**  Other voices:  Confederate statues don't preserve history, they distort it.

**  Tennessee Heritage Protection Act puts future  of Confederate  monuments in hands of commission.

**  US Rep Jamie Raskin writes a possible substitute for Maryland's Confederate-sympathizing state song.

**  Man accused of vandalizing Pensacola Confederate monument arrested on suspicion of DUI.  (Florida.  He is a black man.)

Still, That Is Not Vandalism.  It Is a Hate Crime.  --Old Secesh

The Second Civil War: South Carolina, Univ. of Texas, JEB Stuart and Raleigh

JULY 13, 2020

**  Legal change could be slow for controversial  SC memorials.   The Heritage Act requires legislature to remove statues.  John C. Calhoun statue taken down.  Wade Hampton statue and others might be coming down.

**  University of Texas  making changes after  Black athlete demands; football field renamed.  Jo Jamail Field at Darrell K. Royall Stadium has been renamed the Campbell/Williams Field after their Heismann Award winners Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams.

There was also a movement to get rid of the "Eyes of Texas" saying it had racial undertones.  It will be kept with maybe some word changes.  I saw the words to it and couldn't pick out anything racial about it.

**  Fort Worth Star-Telegram keeps up with the Confederadication better than any newspaper I've seen.  So, if you want more information, go there.

** Descendant of JEB Stuart  wants statue at his birthplace.  (You know the statue they took down in Sad Richmond a short time ago.)

**  Workers removing statue of antebellum North Carolina chief justice.  (Raleigh   Thomas Ruffin.  This was done because of his opinion that overturned  the conviction of a slave owner for shooting a slave in the back after refusing his orders.
