Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

List of Renamed Bases-- Part 5: Fort A.P. Hill Becomes Fort Walker, Fort Fort Lee Becomes Fort Gregg-Adams

Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia becomes Fort Walker.  Renamed after Doctor Mary Edwards Walker, the first female surgeon in the Civil War and the only woman awarded the Medal of Honor.

************************

Fort Lee, Virginia will be renamed Fort Gregg-Adams, after Lieutenant General  Arthur Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams.

Gregg was a key figure in the integration of black soldiers into the Army.  Adams was the highest ranking black woman in World War II.

Civil War II: U.S. Navy, NAACP, Ukraine, Yale and Arlington

MARCH 12, 2023

**  Stripping Confederate ties, the U.S. Navy renames two vessels.  (New York Times.  I bet the Times is really happy about that.)

**  NAACP, others, seek removal of Confederate ties.  (Milledgeville, Georgia.  I'm surprised the NAACP would take a stance like that.  This is not very racist, is it?)

*****************************

MARCH 13, 2023

**  Ukraine making same mistake as Confederacy in the Civil War.

** Yale scholar helps U.S. military rename Confederate memorials.

*****************************

MARCH 14, 2023

**   Arlington's Monument to Peace and Reconciliation slated for demolition.    (Arlinton National Cemetery's Confederate monument.    I suppise the Confederates buried there will also have to be removed.)

Are We Still Fighting the Civil War? Maine, Kentucky and Virginia

MAY 30, 2022

**  Mainers rally against Confederate flag used in Memorial Day parade.  (New Gloucester, Maine. Sorry, but Confederate soldiers were American soldiers.  Go over there and stand with Kappynapper.)

**  Kentucky law still recognizes Confederate Memorial Day.  Why?

**  The Civil War:  The one we fought, the one we're still fighting.  (No kidding!)

******************************

JUNE 1, 2022

**  Breaking:  Confederate statue removed Tuesday morning, base still remains.  (Owensboro, Kentucky)

**  Rep. McEachin praises push to change names of  Virginia bases currently named for Confederates.  (Virginia.  Did he just become aware of this?   Looks like he would have said something about it sooner.)

It's the Civil War All Over Again

MAY 7, 2022

**  Our nation is still divided along  the battle lines of the Civil War.  (Time magazine.)

**  Confederate gets new name.  (Confederate Motors now to be called Curtis Motorcycles.  Personally I think the name should be changed to Tubmans.)

**  Casey White tattoo  shows Nazi SS symbol, Confederate flag.  (Convicted murderer who escape the Louisiana prison with help from a prison guard.)

***********************************

MAY 8, 2022

**  'My Old Kentucky Home,' has racist past.  (Washington Post.  Big surprise they'd say something like this.

Rename Fort Bragg for Edward Bragg (Famed Union 'Iron Brigade' General). Some Other Possible Renames, Including Blacks

SEPTEMBER 7, 2021

**  Colonial-era Royal Carriage stirs up modern  backlash in Netherlands.  (So "Woke" has hit there as well.)

**  Forget 'Fort Lee'--  Congress seeks input on replacement for c(C)onfederate names.  (8 News ABC, Virginia. (And you'd think a news organization like ABC would know about proper names.  Maybe its "blacklash" in the media.

**  Fort Bragg seeks public input for base's new name. (I've already suggested Edward Bragg, a noted Union Civil War commander who led the famed Iron Brigade.)

**  Virginia is set to remove Richmond's Lee statue on Wednesday.  (Sure didn't take them long.)

**  Family seeks to rename Fort Benning after Kentucky war hero and his wife.  (Lt. Gen. Hal Moore.  At least he is a white man.  I'd hate to see all of the bases renamed after Blacks.  Some should be, however.  I'd like to see Benjamin O. Davis (Sr. and Jr.), Colin Powell and Jackie Robinson as three of the names.)

Are Stone Mountain Changes Enough? Kind of Doubt It. Texas, Forrest, Bull Run, Santa Fe, Tappahannock and South Carolina

JUNE 17, 2021

**  Confederate monument removed from Gainseville's  Leonard Park.  (Texas)

**  Changes coming to the nation's largest   Confederate monument.  Are they enough?  (That would be Georgia's Stone Mountain.  And, I'm sure the changes are not going to be enough.  Hey, its the media.)

**  Nathan Bedford Forrest's remains have been dug up twice, but for very different reasons.  (Memphis, Tennessee)

**  Civil War cannons that may have been at Battle of Bull Run get a new home.

**  Hispanic group sues Santa Fe mayor  over destroyed obelisk.  (New Mexico.    152-year-old monument.  It was to Union soldiers who fought Confederates, but also Indians, so white rioters   tore it down because of "Woke.")

JUNE 18, 2021

**  Tappahannock leaders vote to remove Confederate  statue, keep soldiers' names.  (Virginia)

**  Artists, activists rally against  Confederate symbols  on Emanuel 9 shooting anniversary.  (South Carolina)

So What If Your Country Fave Has Confederate Flags? If They Don't Like It They Can Go Listen To Some Rap. Virginia's Woke East University

FEBRUARY 20, 2021

**  Fort Monroe named Site of Memory associated with UNESCO Slave Route Project.  (Virginia.  Real Civil War history.  Not the revisionist college professor stuff they're trying to ram down our throats.)

******************************

FEBRUARY 21, 2021

**  The future of Confederate monuments.  (These are the ones at National Park Service parks.  The editorial was in favor of removing them.  Hopefully not.)

**  Luke Combs shares ways to honor southern heritage  without a Confederate flag.  (Pretty lame way.  He has come under fire for being seen around Confederate flags.  He should just tell detractors where to go.)

**  Luke Combs' Confederate flag apology sparks discourse among country fans.  (There have not been many black country music artists, just like there have not been many white rap, soul urban artists.  However, watching all the black country artists performing on CMT, I'm beginning to wonder.  But country does have the late great Charley Pride and Darius Rucker.)

**  University buildings in Virginia once named  after Confederates now  honour African Americans.  (James Madison University.  Why must all renamings be for Blacks?  Aren't there any whites who deserve names on buildings?  From the Washington Post -- and we know where they stand on these issues.  The Post points out that the school is named for the country's 4th president who also owned you-know-what.  Guess what the Post would like to happen?  Welcome Woke University East or the Harriett Tubman University.)

What's In a Name. Was It a Riot or Demonstration? Only Her Hairdresser Knows for Sure.

JANUARY 16, 2021

**  How the Civil War got its name.    (From the Jan. 15, 2021, JStor Daily.  What happened on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol has been called a riot or insurrection.  What BLM did last summer is called peaceful demonstrations or, at worst, civil unrest.  All could be considered demonstrations.  Hopefully the media will come up with a common terminology for events such as we witnessed Jan. 6 and last summer and apply it equally to both sides.

Well, there has also been huge differences in what the conflict we today call the Civil War has been called.  This is and that applied to both at the time it was fought and up to today.  A very interesting article.)

**  Panel to consider Fort Polk name change.

**  Lawsuit  filed against city of Van Buren, mayor, for barring Confederate flag from Christmas parade.  (Arkansas)

**  A year of racial reckoning, black lawmakers believe they can finally  eliminate Confederate Heroes Day in Texas.

**  The Jim Crow legacy of Southern military bases.

Here's Hoping the Media Now Knows What a Riot Looks Like. Quit Calling BLM Riots Civil Unrest.

JANUARY 14, 2021

**  Survey seeks  input on replacement of Confederate statue.  (Warren County)

**  Opinion:  Are Confederate flags trouble in Idaho schools?  (Confederate flags in Idaho?  What gives there?)

**  Descendant of Robert E. Lee  says Confederate flag at the Capitol  was "attack on our democracy."

**  What does Fort Rucker renaming mean  for Rucker Blvd.?  (Alabama)

**  Troops lodged at Capitol in 1861.  It was a wreck when they left it.   (A bit of history.)

**  Years of white supremacy threats culminated in Capitol riots.

I'm Hoping That Now That Media Knows What a Riot Looks Like, They'll Quit Calling It Civil Unrest Like They Do With a BLM Riot.  --Old Secesh

Talking 'Bout Them Insurgents, CNN, Fort Bragg, West Point, Rolling Stone and Skeeters

JANUARY  8. 2021

**  Before Wednesday, insurgents waving Confederate flags hadn't been within six miles of the US Capitol.  (CNN.  Imagine CNN with these headlines.  Only the last time, those "insurgents" might have done far worse than these "insurgents" did.  And, there would have been many more than two (I'm guessing) Confederate flags there.)

**  Pentagon begins process to rename bases like Fort Bragg due to Confederacy link.

**  Defense secretary  appoints four to commission on renaming  military bases that honor Confederates.  (Just PLEASE, please, please DON'T rename every one for a black person.  I wouldn't mind one named for Colin Powell or Jackie Robinson.  But, under today's situation every one of them will be named after a black person.)

**  New law requires West Point to rename dorm, roads and gate named for Confederate generals.  (Lee Barracks, also a road and gate named for Lee.  Also a road named for Beauregard.  Just don't name them all for Blacks.)

**  Lock him up.  (Rolling Stone magazine on Trump after the riot.  Well, if Rolling Stone says so, it must be so.)

**  Opinion:  A disgrace for the history books:  Even before  the Civil War, better leaders prevented chaos in the Capitol.

**  Mississippi governor to sign law Monday for new state flag.  (Well, if they had to change it, at least they got a good looking one.  I still kind of like the one with the mosquito.  They sure have a lot of them in Louisiana.)

Even Sherman and Carson? That SPLC on Cannon Hinnant

AUGUST 13, 2020

**  There's a deal to move Greenville's Confederate monument, organizer says.  (South Carolina)

**  Confederate symbols to be explored in college's latest virtual  teach-in on social justice.    (Virginia Tech)

**  Will Monterrey County be stuck with its Confederate street names?  (California.  Also some other names like William T. Sherman, Kit Carson.)

**  He set out to show his son DC's 68 Civil War forts.  Protests made it more than a diversion.

************************************

AUGUST 14, 2020

**  In rapid 'reckoning,' SPLC reports 38 Confederate monuments have been removed in the US since George Floyd's death.  It's a lot.  (Southern Poverty Law Center.  They, however, or really busy counting and rejoicing at the removed statues.  But, they said nothing about Cannon Hinnant, the murdered 5-year-old white boy in North Carolina.)

**  What should replace Confederate statues?  (Wants statues to famed black people.  Must they all have to be Blacks?  Aren't there some deserving whites?)

Who Wants This?: Rename the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial in DC and Take Them Off Mt. Rushmore

JULY 16, 2020

**  Photos:  Wilmington area Confederate monuments.  (North Carolina)

**  Congress to start debate on annual Defense Bill.

**  Letter:  Don't stop with Confederate monuments.  (Wants all offensive monuments removed, including Columbus and Pilgrims.  The Washington and Jefferson monuments should be renamed.  And Mt. Rushmore should have Washington and Jefferson removed or altered.  A photo accompanied this of the removal of the Confederate statue at Libby Hill in Sad Richmond.  There was hardly a spot on it not covered with hate crimes.

**  US Army seeks to remove 'divisive symbols' from military bases.

**  You can't claim memorials should come down if you don't know anything about them.

**  The affair at Elk Creek.  (Battle of Honey Springs in Oklahoma.  Wow, real Civil War history.  Not this revisionist/BLM stuff.)

**  Kentucky  county votes to keep  Lee statue at courthouse.  (Calloway County.  Wow, how did this happen?  How'd a group of politicians develop a backbone?)

**  Raptors, Rattlers or Royals?   Richland students can have a say  in name of new mascot.  Texas.  The old Confederate one has been removed.  They were the Richland Rebels.  Also changed are the Richland flag that looked like a Confederate flag, the dance team named  the Dixie Belles and the spirit team named Johnny Reb.

The Confederacy Under Attack: New Name for Fort Hood. Who Is for Confederadication? What Is Confederadication

JULY 15, 2020

**  Rename Fort Hood for a deserving Army leader--  Gen. Richard Cavazos:  Patrick M. M. McLaughlin.  (He is a Mexican-American.  I could go for him when the bases are renamed.  I'd definitely support Union generals from the Civil War or generals from WW I and WW II.  As long as they are not Blacks (unless Colin Powell).  Not that I'm against naming the bases after Blacks, but at this point in time, with all this happening against the Confederates and their descendants, that would be too much of a slap in the face.  Wait at least ten years before you start naming the bases for Blacks.)

**  Some chosen to design Mississippi state flag without rebel symbol.

**  Editorial Roundup:  South Carolina.

**  Newspaper covering Confederadication better than anyone else:  Fort Worth Star-Telegram.  Newspapers 100% behind Confederadication:  Washington Post and New York Times.  TV stations 100% behind Confederadication:  CNN.

**  Confederadication:  Removing all traces of the Confederacy.  Combination of the word Confederate and eradication.

When Will We Reach a Decision on Those Military Bases? Texas, Ohio, Kentucky

Remember, these are headlines from media sources, so, if you want to know more, type it in and see.

JULY 14, 2020

**  Rename Fort Hood to uncover our history.

**  Paulding County in the Civil War.  (Van Wert, Ohio.  Finally, some real Civil War history, not all this NAACP, BLN and SPLC stuff. Back before Charleston, this is what I used to find for headlines in the alerts.)

**  Facebook sounds off on  Army post name change.

**  House appropriations bill supports changing names of military bases, block border wall funding.

**  GOP  lawmakers complain about Davis statue removal process.  (Kentucky)

Again, I Expect the Base Names To Be Changed.  --Old Secesh

Now, the Coast Guard Under the Gun, Arlington National Cemetery's Confederate Monument and Fort Lee

JULY 9, 2020

**  Top military officer labels Confederacy as treasonous as Pentagon takes 'hard look' at rebel ties.  (Washington Post)

**  During the Civil War, the enslaved were given  an especially odious job.  The pay went to the owners.  (Washington Post)

**  Army reviewing  'Confederate Memorial' featuring slaves at Arlington National Cemetery.

**  McEachin suggests  name change at Fort Lee.  (Lt. General Arthur J. Gregg.  A black man.  Reading about him, he is deserving, but not to rename any of the bases after any black people as the wounds are too fresh and the hurt too deep right now.  Maybe later.  Right now, name them after other Union generals during the Civil War and change the name later.)

**  Dealing with Confederate imagery on ships.  (Coast Guard under attack for not banning Confederate imagery.  Also, the Coast Guard Cutter Taney, the last surviving warship from Pearl Harbor and now a floating museum in Baltimore will have its name changed to its hull identification, WHEC-37.

About That Geico Ad About the Civil War Massacre

In the last post, I wrote about Geico quietly taking down their ad about a Civil War massacre of black troops.  I hadn't heard about it until that post, but imagined that would have to be the Fort Pillow Massacre.  It was.

Now, why would an insurance company noted for their humorous commercials (I always stop whatever I'm doing to watch anytime one of their commercials comes on) have an commercial about a massacre? Not very funny at all.

Seems it was an "Oops" on their part.

From the June 23, 2020, History News Network  "Geico quietly takes down ad  referencing Civil War massacre of black soldiers."

Geico has a reputation for its catchy radio and TV ads and had one  30-second spot ad "Pillow Soft Fortress."  They were hawking homeowners insurance and featured a woman talking about building a fort of pillows in her house and called it her "Fort Pillow."

In 1864, Confederate forces under Nathan Bedford Forrest massacred some 300 Union black soldiers after they had surrendered at Fort Pillow.

A horrible action on the part of the Confederates in a war that both sides did horrible things to each other.

Just One More "Situation" in this Confederadication Campaign.  --Old Secesh

What Is This Civil War II?

We had a World War I and then a World War II.  We also had a Civil War (1861-1865) which was the only Civil War until essentially those murders in Charleston, S.C. on June 17, 2015.  This is the date I consider the start of Civil War II, though it had been going on for years before that, especially with the beginning of the Civil War Sesquicentennial in 2011.

June 17, 2015 was essentially April 12, 1861, with the firing on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.  It started the First Civil War.

I was writing about this continuing War on the Confederacy, or Civil War II as I call it, in my Saw the Elephant: Civil War blog, the last several months with three straight days worth of what my Google Alerts said.  It gives you the continuity and severity of those attacks.  Again, just because you don't continually read about these in your local newspaper, doesn't mean they aren't happening.

However, now that I have this new blog, I can write about Civil War II right here and keep Saw the Elephant to the First Civil War.
