This Will Be My Last Post on This Blog

This will be my last post on this blog.  The problem is that I have way TOO MANY blogs.  I should really drop some others but will continue posting them, but not as often.

I started this blog after an earlier attempt had failed several years before this one.  The reason I started them was because I was so upset at what was going on in regards to the nasty and continued attacks on Confederate heritage.

I wanted people to know, that even if your local newspapers and media didn't talk about every day, that it was still going on.  Sadly, it still is and probably never will end.

And another reason to stop writing this blog is how upset it gets me every entry.

I still hold that statue removal should be put to a local vote, although I doubt the Confederate haters will try that again, because whenever it comes up for a vote, the people vote for them to remain.  I did agree with renaming the Army bases since the men they were named for did fight against the United States.

I also believe that when statues are removed, it should be the people who want them removed that pay for that.  And part of that cost should be to put the statues up elsewhere.  They should cover all costs.

Here Is the List of Army Bases to be Renamed-- Part 2: Fort Benning Becomes Fort Moore

This has been the topic of many articles in the last month as the military starts renaming them.  I do not list these unless more information is given than what I have already written.  That is why I haven't been writing a lot lately in this blog.  (And believe me, I sure will be happy if the day ever comes that I can completely drop this blog.  I have too many blogs as it is and this one is no fun to write.)

All of the  people the bases are renamed for are deserving.  The commission that chose the names did a good job.

RENAMED BASES:

FORT BENNING, Georgia, will become FORT MOORE, after Army Lt. Gen.  Hal Moore and his wife, Julia Compton Moore. Hal Moore  received the Distinguished Service cross for his heroism in the Vietnam War.  Julia Moore advocated for military families and is credited for the personal notification of death procedures now practiced.

A New Battle to Preserve Part of the Cedar Creek Battlefied in Virginia

JANUARY 22, 2022

**  3 Charlotte streets officially drop names tied to slavery, Confederacy.  (North Carolina.  Only one of the three were renamed for Blacks.  And that name, the Montford Point Street is entirely a good one as that was where black Marines trained during WW II.)

I don't mind the changing of names of streets or other items so long as they are not ALL renamed for Blacks.

**  Proposed  Virginia Sheetz on Civil War site draws opposition.  (Middletown, Virginia.  This is where a the Battle of Cedar Creek was fought on October 19, 1864,  and the proposed 19.5-acre site is considered a key part of the battlefield.)

Now, this is what I should be writing about  in this blog, not the hurtful stuff that I normally cover.  I wonder how the other side feels about the loss of an actual battle site.)

1005th Post on This Blog

I just noticed that this post will be the 1005th post since I started this blog back in September 2019.

I had tried on two prior times to start a blog, but was unable to get it to work correctly, until this one.

I started this because of all of the attacks on the Confederacy and was hoping I wouldn't have to, but those attacks continued.  Even now, I would be more than happy to give this one up if the attacks stop, but I doubt that will happen.

No Confederate Alerts Since August 19!!!!! Has the Nightmare Finally Ended?

I have not had a single Alert for the word Confederate since AUGUST 19!!!!!   Does this mean that the constant attacks on any and all things Confederate has ended.  We can only hope.

As I said, when the attacks cease, so will this blog.  I so look forward to that day.

It can not come too soon.

Maybe certain people realize that they have bigger problems than Confederates.  Let's face it, school attendance for their children is the lowest of all groups.  And they had to fight so hard to get better education.

And then, there is the crime problem.  Way too many of them commit crimes.  And, I am not even going to the problem with them shooting and killing each other.

Even if they stop, I want the removal of all Confederate items from public areas to continue as well as the renaming of any school whose student population is mostly minority.  Also the renaming of the Army bases.

They have made their point.  Now work on more pressing points.

These Attacks Just Don't End: At Least in NC, Toppling Confederate Monuments Is Illegal.

The main reason I keep writing this blog is so people see that this Confederate hatred campaign is still underway.  Media doesn't cover it in depth, just in local instances most of the time.  These are recent headlines that you read, with location and my comments in parentheses.

**  NJ man charged with toppling Confederate statue outside NC Capitol.  (Back in April, 2020.  I am amazed.  I though that people committing hate crimes like that were in line to get medals and good commendations, not prosecuted.  Again, I am shocked.  Now, what about that Virginia state senator who incited a riot and hate crime in Portsmouth?)

**  Rally planned Tuesday over renaming of Duval County Confederate-named schools.  (Florida.  I am taking this as a vote as to whether to rename them or not.  If so, that is the way to go.  Let the people vote.  I did read that the voting does not determine the new name.)

**  Southern charm:  Patricia Altschul caught flying Confederate flags on Christmas tree.  (Big Whuup!!  So, who cares.  And how does a flag fly on a Christmas tree anyway.  And, who is Patricia?)

**  Robert E. Lee High School students plan protest over school's name.   (Jacksonville, Florida)

The Third Year for This Blog (and Hopefully the Last)

This was a blog that I hoped never to have started.  This is a blog I hope ends, the sooner the better.  This is a blog that really upsets me to have to write.  Sometimes I have to just get up and walk away to get over my fumes at what I am seeing.

These attacks on my ancestors....  Well....

Anyway, this is my 709th post of this blog which started on September 17, 2019.  It was the third attempt at writing it.  The first two only lasted a day each and I was unable to figure out how to set it up the way I wanted, which is the way it is now set up.  One of those attempts is on my Saw the Elephant: Civil War blog page.

Back on March 24, 2020, I was even able to write that I was going to take a break from writing this blog because of the marked decrease in number of Confederadication attempts on anything Confederate.  (Confederadication means those intent on obliterating all things Confederate and making anyone who supported the cause look like the worst people who have ever lived.

As a matter of fact, this past summer, in the rioting and chaos that took place after the George Floyd murder I had to stop my other blogs to keep up with all the anti-Confederate stuff going on.

I originally was writing these in that aforementioned blog, but didn't want it there, so I was happy when I was able to set this one up.

Again, sure hoping and wishing that this blog will end this year, but kind of doubt it.

Stop attacking the Confederacy and I'll be more than happy to stop this blog.

Trump Vetoes Defense Bill. Big Surprise There. 'Roll Tide' and 'Gator Bait', A Big Surprise from Virginia

**  From 'Roll Tide' to 'Gator Bait', college football reckons with problematic traditions.  (These are Confederate or Antebellum-related.  Very interesting article.  I will write about it soon in my Saw the Elephant: Civil War blog.

**  Show of force on US streets and crisis at Fort Hood tested army secretary this year.  Also renaming Confederate bases.

**  Trump vetoes colossal $740 billion defense bill, breaking with Republican-led Senate.  (He did as he said he would do, evidently.  Again, I am in favor of renaming the bases, but, please not all black people.  Regardless of how good a man the Confederate officers were, the fact is that they still chose to fight their country.)

**  Fort Benning is named for a slave-owning secessionist.  That could soon change.  (Georgia)

**  Warner:  'I look forward' to overriding Trump's veto of defense partly over Confederate issue.  (Senator Mark Warner of Virginia.  From Virginia?  Surprise.  He's a Democrat?  Another surprise.)

**  With hate crimes on the rise, GOP senators go all-in for racist statues.  (Yep.  Lots of hate crimes being committed against Confederate statues and symbols these days.)

I Can't Keep Up With All This

I feel the United States has reached a real turning point in history right now.  Between the pandemic and all this racial unrest, as Bob Dylan said, "The Times They Are a Changing."

And I surely hope this change will be for the better.  Although at present we could even be headed for a racial war just as much as we might be headed for a better United States.  I guess only time will tell.

This is definitely going to be something for "the rewritten history books."  Students will be wondering who Union forces fought between 1861 and 1865.  They'll just know they fought someone whose name cannot be mentioned because of slavery and their racism.  And that these people were absolutely the worst people ever to live on earth.

And, this is not to say anything about what happened to so many of the earliest U.S. presidents.  Who were they and why are they not mentioned?  School children will still be going to Douglass, D.C., and taking tours up to the top of the Tubman Monument and King Memorial (old Jefferson Memorial).

Anyhow, I am attempting to keep up with all that is happening in this storm surge of revisionism, so this is why I won't be doing much in my other blogs as there is so much to write about here.  If the new Civil war ever stops, that will also be the end of this blog.  I sure enjoyed it in April when the virus had all the BLMers and before George Floyd was killed when I only had four blog entries the whole month.

Sad to Say, But It Is Time for the SCV and UDC to Ask City, County and State Governments to Remove All Confederate Monuments From Public Property

I have named this blog Civil War II (and had an earlier one called The Second Civil War) because when all this Confederate hatred stuff started after the Charleston murders, it became very apparent that this was a Second Civil War.

Even from the beginning, there was very little chance that our organizations would be able to protect out heritage, what with all the black militancy, their white minion support and all the public servants lacking back bone to stand up against the black tyranny.  There are just too few of us.

This has happened before in Nazi Germany with the mass book burnings and Kristallnacht (The Night of the Broken Glass).

We fought a valiant fight, but time has come to have an unconditional surrender to the forces that are against us.  We had a remote chance to keep them until the police stopped doing their jobs and protecting the statues.  Arrests should have been made.

I doubt that there is a single Confederate statue anywhere on public land that has not been "vandalized" (which actually is a hate crime committed against it) .  The only hope for them now is their total removal and that needs to be done by either the SCV or UDC, but most likely only towns and states have enough money to do it.

We can get that infamous SPLC "list" of targeted Confederate statues and markers to determine which ones remain and need to be removed.    I'm even willing to forego the Confederate protection laws that are in some states.

So, please cities, counties and states of the South, remove all Confederate statues and markers from all public space.  Take them somewhere safe from the Blacks and their white minions.  Do it for "public safety" which seems to be the preferred term used for it lately.

It seems that we have reached the point in the Confederacy where Lee's forces leave Petersburg.

Help, I Can't Keep Up

Bring back those good old days in April, in the early stages of the coronavirus, when all these incessant attacks on all things Confederate by the new Tyranny of the Blacks took a vacation.

I only had to write four blog entries that month about this mess.

Now, I find it impossible to keep up with the affronts that you see everywhere.  I have to wonder if there is one single Confederate statue anywhere which hasn't had a hate crime committed against it.

If the attacks would stop, this blog would also stop.

But, I don't think it will last much longer because I am fairly sure that by the end of this year, maybe before, every single Confederate statue, memorial, name, flag and everything else will be gone as we have an updated version of November 9-10. 1938.

That's the Night of the Broken Glass which the Nazis used on the Jews for those of you unaware of history.  Who is a Nazi now?

15 Days Until Virginia's Confederate Statue Orgy

Yep, folks, just 15 days until Virginia gets to "legally" go on its state sanctioned tear-down of Confederate statues, and I know Richmond and Charlottesville are really anticipating that.  It will be cause for a great party with all sorts of cheering, hand-clapping and back-slapping.  There will be so much joy for some.

I wonder how many other statues will be coming down in the state between July 1 and July 4?

Every Southern state is having the repulsive Confederate Hate virus, but Virginia, the former capital of the Confederacy, especially so.

The whole state is now on my boycott list as a result, which, as a Civil War buff, is difficult with all the battlefields there.  Plus, traditionally, I stop in Wytheville, Virginia, for gas on my way to North Carolina as this is the cheapest gas during the whole trip.  Next time, I will wait until I get to North Carolina to fill up.

Plus, I was planning on driving the Crooked Road for that experience.  And, if you've been following my Tattooed On Your Soul:  World War II blog, I've been writing about Bedford, Virginia, and its role as America's World War II City because 19 of its 34 sons died on D-Day.  I won't be visiting it for  now.

Just some of the things I will be missing about Virginia (but not that horrific traffic gridlock in the northern part of the state between D.C. and Virginia).

All that will have to wait until I find a way to forgive Virginia for its transgressions.

I Will Be Taking a Break from This Blog for Awhile

Because of the Virus and the marked decrease in attacks of the Confederacy, I will do something I have been thinking about the last several days, and that is to stop this blog for awhile.

That is, until the haters ramp up their attacks again.

And, it sure would be nice if they just stop the attacks after the virus pandemic is gone.  If they do, this blog will cease.

Come on guys, I could sure use the break of not having to do this blog.

Maybe the Virus Has Become a Bigger Problem Than Those Confederate Monuments and Flags

Considering that the earlier post of today didn't have any articles directly related to the current struggle over all things Confederate on March 15, I am hoping that at least there will be a temporary, or better yet, cessation of the attacks.  I'll know when I take a look at the March 16 and 17 articles.

I know I sure would like to stop doing this blog.  I have seven others that I do, and that is way too many.  Plus, I tend to get a bit angry when I do this blog.

So, maybe there is something good coming of the virus.

What Is This Civil War II?

We had a World War I and then a World War II.  We also had a Civil War (1861-1865) which was the only Civil War until essentially those murders in Charleston, S.C. on June 17, 2015.  This is the date I consider the start of Civil War II, though it had been going on for years before that, especially with the beginning of the Civil War Sesquicentennial in 2011.

June 17, 2015 was essentially April 12, 1861, with the firing on Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor.  It started the First Civil War.

I was writing about this continuing War on the Confederacy, or Civil War II as I call it, in my Saw the Elephant: Civil War blog, the last several months with three straight days worth of what my Google Alerts said.  It gives you the continuity and severity of those attacks.  Again, just because you don't continually read about these in your local newspaper, doesn't mean they aren't happening.

However, now that I have this new blog, I can write about Civil War II right here and keep Saw the Elephant to the First Civil War.
