**  How an ex-slave and a Confederate hero joined forces during the Jim Crow era.  (Quite an interesting story.  Give it a read.)

**  Bill to repeal Alabama law protecting  Confederate monuments  fails to advance.  (Wow!  Did we maybe win one?)

**  Split vote, split views.  Confederate Pelham removed as Culpepper Lake's name.  (Virginia)

**  Gaston County Confederate monument vandalized.  (North Carolina.  Dear old BLM at work again.  I wonder of it would be vandalizing if someone did that to a Martin Luther King Jr. monument?)

**  Did Churchill say "People with contempt for their heritage have lost faith in themselves"?  (Snopes.  He didn't.  These words were on a removed Confederate monument.)

**  Utah House votes for dropping 'Dixie' from university name.  (Dixie State University.  No new name chosen.  The school has already changed nickname from Rebels to Red Storm and removed a Confederate soldier statue.  Many southerners had settled in the area after the Civil War.  Maybe rename the school Gutless State University or Woke State University.)

**  First black president at the University of the South says home has been vandalized, threatening messages left.  (Sewanee, Tennessee.  Is this vandalism or a hate crime.  I'd call it a hate crime.)

**  Group calls on SC to discontinue  license plates  featuring Confederate flag.  (Let's see, you think it might be a black group?  Let's see.  It was CAIR, Council on American-Islamic Relations.  Not necessarily Blacks.  I wonder what they have to say about 9/11?)

**  Confederate statue in Dalton related to previous protests removed and relocated.  (Georgia.  General Joseph E. Johnston.  Moved to a private museum.  This paid for by UDC and they shouldn't have had to pay for it.  As I have said before, if you want it gone, put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is.)

**  How an ex-slave and a Confederate hero joined forces during  the Jim Crow era.  (A very interesting story about a new book about the case of a poor black farmer George Dinning charged with murder in Kentucky in the postwar South was defended by Bennett H. Young, a Confederate hero.  Well worth a read.)

**  New bill would ban Confederate flag at Michigan's Capitol.  (Introduced by a black state senator.  Also backing a bill making Juneteenth a state holiday.  Kind of racist sounding.)

**  Of all things:  Getting rid of Confederate names.

**  Confederates among us.  (Washington Post.  This can't be good.)

**  What can the Battle of Gettysburg teach us about  the COVID-19 fight. (So, who was the evil at this battle?  Actually, this was more of a medical account.)

**  Racial justice protests draw attention, ire of Statesville.  (Over Confederate monument which has had two different hate crimes committed on it over the summer.  At least no rioting or violence.)

**  Utah institutions move away from 'Dixie' name, but locals split.  (A local hospital to change name as well.)

**  House votes to override Trump veto.

**  Confederate monuments:  Should they stay or should they go.  (Hey, that's a play on the words of an old Clash song.)

Dixieland Gas Station Changes Name and Richmond Episcopal Church

JULY 9,2020


**  Dixie launches 'God Bless America' promotion, Confederate flag sign covered, for now.  (Dixieland, a popular gas station, convenience store. gift shop just south of the Virginia-Maryland border.  It has a large sign with the store's name and a Confederate flag.  Wonder why they did this.  Next they'll probably change their name.  Perhaps now, more Blacks will go there.)

**  Capital commission  approves moving Nathan Bedford Forrest bust to Tennessee State Museum.

**  As Confederate symbols come down in Virginia, a Richmond church is removing its own, but keeps BLM graffiti.  (Episcopal church once known as the "Cathedral of the Confederacy."   Jefferson Davis was a member and he and Robert E. Lee worshipped there.

**  Mississippi poised to replace state flag featuring Confederate war emblem.

**  Trump denounces  protesters tearing down statues, as Confederate monuments are targeted.

**  Ricchard Groves:  The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.  (No kidding.  I heard this song by the Band a few days ago and couldn't help but have a tear in my eye.  This is the second time they drove old Dixie down.  The first was in 1865.  This song has taken on a whole new meaning for me of late.)

**  Sons of Confederate Veterans dismiss case over Franklin stake removal.  At first I thought this was a misprint and should have been statue instead of stake.  But, I read the article which said Franklin, Tennessee, has stakes with the names of Confederate generals killed at the Battle of Franklin.

Six generals were killed at the battle.  A group plans on removing them.

**  'I am scared because I am black.'  Connecticut man ordered to take down Confederate flag after waging harassment campaign against neighbors.

**  'People have thought about this.' :   Majority of North Carolinians want Confederate monuments to stay.

**  Miami-Dade might rename Dixie Highway because its name is gross and racist.

**  North Carolina takes down Confederate statue from courthouse amidst 'high emotions, division, and even violence.'

Second Civil War, Oct. 23, 2019: Hate Crime Statue Damage Costs Money to Repair

**  City puts insurance "on notice" over Confederate statue damage.  (Charlottesville, Va.)  It costs money to repair damage done by those committing hate crimes against the statues.

**  Interfaith vigil set to oppose Confederate statue.  (Florida)  Religion too?

**  Sons of Confederacy responds to Dixie Classic Fair name change.  Well actually it should be Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Dixie is another word used by the Confederacy.  Can't have that.
