**  Virginia Supreme Court to hear cases challenging  removal of Confederate statue.  (Sad R. Robert E. Lee statue.  They can't take it down fast enough to suit me.  That town and mayor need to be greatly embarrassed about what they've done to it.)

**  Texas city  ends brock program amid Confederate controversy.  (Georgetown, Texas.    People could buy a brick for $50 in memory  of any citizen or veteran and it was placed on a sidewalk around the county courthouse.  A money raiser for the Williamson County Historical Society.  Nine were bought honoring Confederate soldiers or officials.  You know who got offended so now no one gets a brick.  Sometimes that other side is completely ridiculous.)

**  Bentonville Confederate monument to stay on National register of Historic Places (Arkansas.  Even though it has been moved.)

**  Petition askes for two Fairfield streets commemorating Confederate generals be renamed.  (Ohio.  Robert E. Lee Drive and Stonewall Lane.)

**  Enterprise editorial:  Beaumont Council was correct  to sell Confederate statue. (Texas.  Sold it for $25,000 after asking $50,000.  Appraised at $150,000.  Towns should not be able to sell these statues.  They need to be turned over to museums or better yet SCV or UDC.  All expenses should be paid by the cities are better yet, those who want them removed.)

**  Owner of land near I-65 holding controversial Confederate general statue has died.  (Nashville, Tennessee.  Nathan Forrest.  Has been "vandalized" often.  Those are actually hate crimes.)

Five Schools in Missouri: Three Named for Union leaders at the Battle of Wilson's Creek; Two for Confederate Comanders. What to Do?

**  Republic schools named for Confederate generals  may get renamed.  (Springfield, Mo.    Five schools were named after leaders on both sides at the Battle of Wilson's Creek.  Two named after Confederate leaders at the battle.  Three after Union commanders.  Obviously the Confederate ones need to be renamed.  Well, we had the movie "Three Signs Outside Ebbing, Missouri" now we have the "Five Schools in Republic, Missouri.")

There is also a push to remove a statue of a Confederate general at the nearby Springfield National cemetery.

**  Richmond mayor says he wants city-owned confederate monuments removed immediately.  (Patience, man.  Patience.  I knew he and the governor would be chomping at the bit to take them down.)

President McKinley's Speech on Decoration Day 1900-- Part 1: Back When Confederates Were Considered Honorable

From the May 18, 2020, Tribune-Chronicle  "President McKinley gives the Antietam Address in 1900" by Mike Wilson.

President William McKinley was a resident of Niles, Ohio.  The Spanish-American War of 1898 had recently ended and many of the troops were back home with their families.  This was the first time that Northerners and Southerners had formed one military since the Civil War.

During the war, McKinley had appointed two supreme commanders of American forces, one was a former Union officer and the other a former Confederate officer.

With Decoration Day (now Memorial Day) fast approaching, McKinley wanted to bring the nation together even more to honor all of our military.  During past decoration Days, families of Union veterans and families of Confederate veterans had  decorated the graves of their fallen separately.

McKinley changed that in 1900 as he traveled to the Antietam Battlefield to give a speech.

There were two significant things about this particular battle:  one was that McKinley had fought there as a Union sergeant and been awarded for heroism, and, second, Maryland had recently  completed a large memorial at the site honoring the state veterans of both sides during the conflict.

Should Confederate Monuments Be Treated Like MLK Memorials? UNC Chancellor Says Silent Sam Can't Come Back to School (Now, He'll Never Graduate)

**  Florida lawmaker says Confederate monuments should be honored like MLK memorials.  (He will come under intense fire for that statement.  We know why certain people don't like anything Confederate, but is there anything that MLK did that might offend some people?

But, didn't MLK have all those extramarital affairs as a preacher?  You'd think he'd know better than that.  Plus, there was the way some Blacks reacted to his murder with rampages, fires, looting and rape.)

**  Athens mayor suggests fair's  inaction on Confederate flag will have costs.  (Athens, Ohio--  Members of the fair's governing body voted overwhelmingly against banning the sale of Confederate items.)

**  Democrats running for state senate talk legislature's role in Confederate monuments.  (Salisbury, N.C.)

**  UNC chancellor vows that the Confederate statue will not return to school.  (That would be Silent Sam.  But, didn't UNC allow those students who committed the hate crime by pulling the statue down, then rejoiced, back in school.  And what about those UNC faculty members who put them up to it.  None of them lost their jobs.)

**  Miami-Dade commissioners vote unanimously to change the name of Dixie Highway.  Florida.  Sheer ignorance.)
