Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

Removing Confederate Holidays, Adding Black Holidays and Some More Unbiased Reporting from the Post

MAY 26, 2022

**  Louisiana  closer to removing Confederate-themed holidays.  (Let's see. Remove a Confederate holiday, add a black holiday.  I see.)

**  Preliminary work begins on Caddo Confederate monument removal.  (Louisiana)

**  Straw ballot on Confederate monuments  fails to win Jacksonville City Council support.  (Jacksonville, Florida.  There was to be a straw vote on it in November.  But. let's face it.  Those who want the statues removed know that if it is put to a people vote, they will lose.)

****************************

MAY 27, 2022

**  Work to scrub the Confederate stain from military bases is off to a good start.  (Washington Post.  Nothing like some good old-fashioned non biased reporting, right Post?)

**  Confederate flag and gun rights taunt causes furor at University High School.  (Normal, Illinois)

**  More Charlotte  streets stripped of Confederate era names.  (North Carolina)

**  Towing company alleges removal from Centralia  tow rotation after owner displays c(C)onfederate flag.  (Illinois.  Come on Madison-St. Clair Record.  PROPER NAME!!)

**   Man sets truck with Confederate flag on fire in Centreville.  (Maryland.  That wasn't very nice.)

Confederadication: Movies, Sad R., Pensacola Police, Kentucky and Illinois

MAY 13, 2021

**  Barry Jenkins used the magic of filmmaking to blow up a Confederate monument. (In the film "Underground Railroad."  No doubt certain folks can't keep from smiling.)

*******************************

MAY 14, 2021

**  City doesn't own Confederate monument at South Richmond court house.  (Sad R.)

**  City Council to vote on removing Confederate flag from Pensacola Police uniforms.  (Florida.  Wonder how the vote will go.  Had any city council down South voted against removing something Confederate?)

**  Pensacola  City Council postpones decision to remove confederate (Confederate) images from PPD.  (That was fast.  Looks like WEAR 3 ABC would know Confederate is a proper name and needs to be capitalized.)

**  County denies  group owns Confederate statue in response to lawsuit.  (Daviess County, Owensboro, Kentucky)

**  Yorkville High School students disciplined after hate symbols displayed on school grounds.  (Illinois)

Where I Stand on the Confederate Removal Poll-- Part 1

This is about the poll in North Carolina that I wrote about in my last post.

Of course, I don't live in North Carolina and didn't take part in the poll.  The percentages of people in each category who opposed and supported removal absolutely did not surprise me at all.  Probably didn't surprise anybody.

I was born in North Carolina and lived there for essentially the first ten years of my life before moving to Illinois (we lived for a half year in Jacksonville, Florida).

I support the statues remaining where they are.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education, a Master's Degree in History and 30 hours beyond that.

I am 69 (and will be 70 near the end of May)

I used to vote mostly Democrat starting in the 1990s up until all this mess over BLM riots and attacks on the Confederacy started, so now tend to vote for Republicans.  In the last three presidential elections, I voted for Obama, Clinton and this last year Trump, even though I sure didn't want to.

I am a white person.

I live in a suburban area of Chicago.

As a matter of fact, I would be more than happy to end this blog if all the attacks stopped.  I'd much rather be concentrating just on the real history of the war and not this mess.

Civil War II: When Will Media Figure Out Confederate Is A Proper Name? Arlington National Cemetery, Mississippi, Virginia, Illinois, Alabama and Canada

 SEPTEMBER 28, 2020

**  The problem of Confederate statues on U.S. public lands.  (Specifically about the Confederate Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery.  The Army is reviewing it and currently is can not be viewed close up.  Several hundred Confederate soldiers are buried at ANC.)

**  Advocates demand removal of confederate statue in Brandon.  (Brandon, Mississippi.  Excuse me, it is Confederate not confederate.  Something about being a proper name.  Wondering why the Blacks have so many advocates and activists?)

**  Tazewell residents protest, calling for removal of confederate statue.  (Virginia.  When will the media learn that Confederate is capitalized?  Or is this some way of putting down the Confederacy?)

**  White crowd cheers for the Confederate flag at an Illinois rally to resume in-person learning.  (Crystal Lake, Illinois.  Several trucks with Confederate and U.S. flags drove by.)

**  Confederate monument in Anniston comes down.  (Alabama.  Monument to Confederate artillery officer John Pelham.)

**  Stratford City Council to discuss banning the Confederate flag.   (Canada.  Wonder if this will also refer to anything BLM?)

The Second Civil War: Portsmouth, Illinois, Congress, Tennessee, Maryland and Florida

AUGUST 27, 2020

**  Portsmouth begins taking down Confederate monument.  (Virginia.  It will be relocated.  NAACP ecstatic.  Sadly, the city left the monument with all the BLM hate crimes committed on it.   Glad it was removed.)

**  House Democrat introduces bill to replace Confederate  monuments nationwide.  (Bobby Rush, U.S. House of Representatives, from Illinois.  Apparently wants them replaced with monuments to Blacks.   I am totally surprised that a Democrat would introduce something like this.  Oh, and by the way, he is a black man.  Another big surprise.)

**  Other voices:  Confederate statues don't preserve history, they distort it.

**  Tennessee Heritage Protection Act puts future  of Confederate  monuments in hands of commission.

**  US Rep Jamie Raskin writes a possible substitute for Maryland's Confederate-sympathizing state song.

**  Man accused of vandalizing Pensacola Confederate monument arrested on suspicion of DUI.  (Florida.  He is a black man.)

Still, That Is Not Vandalism.  It Is a Hate Crime.  --Old Secesh

Why Did It Take So Long for Some People to Realize They Didn't Like Those Pesky Confederate Statues?

AUGUST 2, 2020

**  Group organizes 'Save the Confederate statue' in Owensboro.  (Kentucky.  Nice to see some people not letting BLM run roughshod over them.  Of course, when you have a pro-statue demonstration, BLM is apt to show up and cause a confrontation.)

**  The above statue has been in front of the Daviess County Courthouse for 120 years.  (I have to wonder why it took black people so long to figure out they didn't like it?)

**  BLM billboard next to Confederate flag to be removed.  (Pittsboro, Chatham County, N.C.)

**  Trump in leaked conversation bragged about retweets for defending Confederate history.

**  Fort Mill hears 2 opposing views on Confederate Park.  here's how Mayor Savage responded.  (Fort Mill, S.C.)

**  Parker County's decision to keep Confederate statue sparks protest Sunday morning.

**  Analysis:  Mississippi group  aims for simple flag design.

**  Bernard Schoenburg:  LaHood lone Illinoisan to vote against bill to remove  statues in D.C.  (There are five Republican representatives from Illinois which means four of them sided with the Democrats.  Mustn't side with Democrats.)

I Don't Know About Those Four.  --Old Secesh

The Second Civil War: Sad Richmond Again, Arkansas, Facebook and Evanston

AUGUST 1, 2020

**  Police:  2 assaulted officers near Confederate statue.  (Richmond, Va.  Police were breaking up an illegal encampment by the Robert E. Lee statue and while doing it, were attacked and two were arrested.  It didn't say if it was BLM or pro-Confederate people.  My guess is that they were BLMers. I'm kind of surprised as I thought the BLMers had impunity for any of their actions in Richmond.)

(Let's hurry up and remove the Lee statue.  It is an eyesore and reflects badly on sad Richmond.  Maybe they should think about cleaning all the obscenity off it.  Thanks BLM.)

**  A closer look:  The future of Confederate monuments in Arkansas.  (In Arkansas, there are still 60  remaining Confederate monuments/symbols of 64 still standing.

States with highest remaining percentages of Confederate monuments:

South Carolina, 98%
Arkansas,  96%
West Virginia/Mississippi, 95%
Georgia, 94%

**  Confederate groups are thriving on Facebook.  What does that mean  for the platform?  (Does not like Confederate groups on Facebook.)

**  Protest calls out white silence  after Confederate  flag towel displayed at Evanston beach.  (Illinois.  The protesters had all sorts of offensive BLM signs.)

Lee, the Face of the "Lost Cause", Let the People Vote to Decide, A Beach Towel Makes the News

JULY 31, 2020

**  Confederate monuments:  Robert E. Lee, the general who became the face of 'Lost Cause' mythology.  (Hey, they lost fighting for the cause of having a new country, so, that was the "Lost Cause."  Since so may died on both sides, I wouldn't call it exactly mythology.)

**  Floyd County Confederate monument  referendum issue remains undecided.  (Virginia.  Trying to decide if removal put to a vote of the people.  This is the correct way of determining whether or not a statue stays.  Something that's not sad coming out of Virginia.  Wow!!)

**  Unsettling report of a Confederate flag towel at Lighthouse Beach.  (Evanston, Illinois.  Now they're going after beach towels.  What about the people on the beach wearing the equally offensive symbols of hate and racism of the BLM?  The woman who made a big deal about this left work on purpose to start a confrontation.)

**  As the South's Confederate monuments come down, where will they end up?   (Good question.)

**  VMI to alter longstanding  traditions tied to its Confederate history, but leave statues in place.

**  Protest s renew calls  to remove Confederate monuments  at Texas Capitol grounds.  (Democrats want them gone.)

**  Not every fight over Confederate monuments end with a statue coming down.

That Flag Is Not Offensive to Everybody (And There Are Quite a Few of Us)

JULY 20, 2020

**  Trump says Confederate flag represents South and 'freedom of many things', insists it isn't offensive.  (After all that has been going on with Confederadication, that can't be true at all.  However, BLMers and Democrats need to know that that flag is not offensive to many people and these attacks on the flag and especially on the monuments is very hurtful.  And, there are a lot of us.  Hopefully this will be remembered at the polls.  I know I am not going to vote for any Democrats here in Illinois other than our county board chairman.  As far as president, I am hoping not to have to vote for Trump, but may be forced to because of all this trampling on me.  Time to back off, guys.

I would like to say that I find groups like the KKK, American Nazis and white supremacists carrying the Confederate flag (or U.S. flag) offensive.  Come on guys, the SCV and UDC did not give you permission to carry or use our flag for your misbegotten   goals.

**  Defying Trump, lawmakers move to strip military bases of  Confederate names.  (New York Times.  They've got to be loving this.  Of course, most of the members of Congress wanting the name change are Democrats.)

**  Pentagon bans Confederate flag on US bases despite Trump's opposition.

I Also Find BLM Flags, Banners, Signs and Especially When The  Letters Are Written on Confederate Monuments Highly Offensive.  --Old Secesh

Now, the "Dukes of Hazzard" Car, Fort Hobby?, Fort Bragg, Trump and Mississippi Flag Change

JULY 5, 2020

**  Museum:  'Dukes of Hazzard' car with Confederate flag will stay.  (Volo Auto Museum, Volo, Illinois.  You know who wanted it gone.  Really, what they got 'gainst Bo, Luke and Daisy?

**  Confederate signs still on graves as history is re-examined.

**  Reader suggests renaming Fort Hood for Ovetta Culb Hobby.  (She was a white woman and first director of U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare.  This could be a good name for the renamed base if it comes to that.)

**  Fort Bragg commission to tackle name change issue, systemic racism.

**  Dem senator says Trump would be 'abandoning the troops' if he vetoes Defense spending bill.

**  About race and erasure:  How America should sort through complicated questions about monuments and men.  (New York Daily News.  Interesting take on the situation.)

**  Analysis:  Ex-Rep Henry set path to Mississippi flag change.

The Fate of Non-Confederate People from the Past Who Are Now Convicted of Slavery in Illinois: Stephen A. Douglas and Ninian Edwards

JULY 4, 2020

**  As monuments fall, Confederate carving has size on its side.   (Georgia's Stone Mountain.  And this had best be under tight security as BLM and their folks will try to destroy it.)

**  Letter:  Fort Douglas needs a new name.  (Utah.  Named for U.S. Senator Stephen A. Douglas from Illinois.  There are also movements in Illinois to remove his name, statue and anything else connected to him, even a park in Chicago they want renamed Douglass Park (with the two (s)s after Frederick Douglass.)

**  Protesters stay silent for 9 minutes  at former site of Confederate memorial in Fayetteville.  (North Carolina)

**  Rival petitions  seek to remove, keep Cleveland, Tenn.'s  Confederate statue.

**  Mississippi could drop Jim Crow-era statewide voting process.

**  Trump's racism goes beyond racial division.  (I take it they don't like Trump.)

**  Founder of Edwardsville at the center of statue debate.   (Illinois   Ninian Edwards served three terms as Illinois territorial governor and one as governor back in the early days of the state.  Has a statue in Edwardsville and plaza.  He was a slave owner and used his power to protect it.

No Flags, Birmingham, Even England Statues Coming Down

June 8 and 9, 2020.

**  Marine Corps bans public display of Confederate flag on its bases  and installations amid  nationwide unrest over George Floyd killing.  (I will be expecting an apology from the Corps for the Montford Point Marines.  Shame on the Corps.)

**  Birmingham officials finish protester's job and pull down 11-year-old Confederate monument.  (The city finished the hate crime.)

**  WATCH protesters TEAR DOWN statue of slave trader in Briston.  (England)

**  Crew heard cheers as Confederate general's statue toppled in Monroe Park.  (Richmond, Virginia)

**  Virginia gov. to announce removal of Confederate Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond.

******************************************

**  Senator calls on Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard to ban the display of the Confederate flag.  (Illinois' U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth.  As a Democrat, I wasn't going to vote for her anyway.  And as a veteran, she should know that the men who fought under that flag were U.S. soldiers.)

**  Louisville removed the Castleman statue.  Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?  (The statue had been vandalized many times.)

**  Army to consider changing names of forts named after Confederate generals.

**  Donald Trump and George Floyd.

**  Tear down all the racist statues.  From The Mary Sue.  Watch the glee and joy of the destruction of several Confederate monuments.  Those people sure are enjoying themselves.

**  Letter to the Editor: , June 9, 2020:  Maury's contributions  outweigh role in the Civil War.

Do rememeber.  What Is Being Done to the Statues Is Nothing less than hate crimes.  --Old Secesh

Here Comes That Night in Virginia

March 10, 2020

**  Confederate memorials can be removed by local governments, Va. lawmakers say.  (Well, Va. Democrat lawmakers say.  Republicans voted against it.  This is a reason I'll be voting against any Democrat running for anything here in Illinois in November, except perhaps for president.  In the past, I usually vote Democrat, but not always.  And that includes for Barack Obama in his second term and Hillary Clinton last election.

Plus, we have to find a way to get Madigan, a Democrat,  out of being Illinois Speaker of the House.

I sure hope a lot of people in Virginia feel the same way about their Democrat representatives.

This removal of Confederate statues is going to happen fast, much like the removal and destruction of aspects of a certain group did back on the Night of November 10-11, 1938.  And, we know who was responsible for that.

Unfortunately, local governments in Virginia and many Southern states are in control of the Confederate-haters (both Black and their white minions).  That means goodbye statues and memorials.

Plus, we can't count on the law or courts to do anything.  Those people getting caught for hate crimes against the statues are rarely, if ever, being prosecuted.  Not one single UNC-Chapel Hill student (and they were all over social media) has been prosecuted or expelled from school for what they did.

Of Wiley's Racist Monument, Bands and Roses With Offensive Names, and Pesky Confederate Flags

December 25, 2019

**  Kehinde Wiley's anti-Confederate memorial.  (He is the sculptor of the new monument in Richmond, Virginia.  I am hoping people pay more respect to it than they do to Confederate monuments even though it is racist.)

**  Upcoming court date in ongoing Confederate monument  court battle reset.  (Caddo, Louisiana)

**  NWA Letters to the Editor "Statue deserves new place in context of area history.  (Bentonville, Arkansas.  Wants Confederate statue moved.)

**  Confederate Railroad coming to Jackson County Fair.  (Iowa.  Here's hoping Gov. "Toilets" of Illinois won't cause it to be cancelled because of the logo and name.)

**  Resident objects to vendor's booth at Old Tyme Fair in New Jersey with Confederate flag for sale.

**  Confederate roses.  I did not know there was a type of rose named this, but hopefully the name won't have to be changed because of their connection to the "S" word.

Well, if Confederate monuments are racist, I guess Mr. Wiley's monument is of the same sort.

About That Racist Incident at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Naperville, Illinois

There is a whole lot about this story in the Chicagoland media.

Last weekend, a group of Blacks came into the Buffalo Wild Wings in Naperville and were asked to move because a white person there did not want to be seated next to Blacks.  The people at the restaurant had the black folks move.

This is almost unbelievable in this day and age that something like this would happen.  I thought we'd come a long way from when Blacks could not eat in restaurants with Whites.

I am glad the Blacks made a big thing about it as well they should.  The managers and employees at the Wild Wings have been fired and the white customer is no longer allowed to come inside.

Just Hard to Believe This Story in This Age.  --Old Secesh

Oct. 26, 2019: About That Confederate Flag at the Cemetery

From the Oct. 26, 2019, Google Alerts for Confederate.  (Columbus, Ga.)

**  Linwood controversy:  Flagpoles and flags removed after Confederate battle flag flown.  I will write more about this situation later where it seems the SCV overstepped their boundaries.

**  Group sues to block NC country from removing Confederate monument.  (Pittsboro, N.C.  There are four other articles about this.

**  Social media posts show Central Va students donning Confederate flags, using racist language. Incidents like this definitely do not help the situation with keeping the monuments and flags and give the opponents plenty of ammunition.

**  UIPD responds to Confederate flag incident.  (University of Illinois)

**  Confederate statue doesn't have to divide Danville.

**  DP Buzz:  The role of Confederate monuments.  An interesting array of comments and possible compromises.  I myself can see room for compromise on them.

Heritage Attacks for Sept. 20, 2019: How About Those UNC Students

Google Alers for Confederate from Sept. 20, 2019.

**  Charlottesville's Confederate statues damaged.

**  Noses chopped off of Confederate statues downtown.

**  Virginia pastors lead Bible study (by Confederate statues which they want removed).

**  Hurricane Dorian returns cannonballs in South Carolina.  Okay, real Civil War history.

**  UNC students create anti-racist' alert system as tensions over Silent Sam still fester.  Perhaps we should have one that warns when the students determine to commit a hate crime like when they illegally took the statue down.

**  Illinois State Fair revenue sets record.  Well, they got none from us.  We were planning to go, but boycotted after they canceled the popular band Confederate Railroad because of the name.

**  The Portsmouth (England) Lib Dems will rise again.

**  ACLU:  New Orleans photographer sued by former New Orleans school principal.
