Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

Civil War II: This Latest Poll May Surprise You

JULY 15, 2021

**  American electorate continues to favor  leaving Confederate relics in place. (From Morning Consult by Cameron Easely.   A poll taken.  51% of Americans say Confederate statues should remain standing.  30% say they should come down.

Republicans overwhelmingly say they should remain.

Democrats are less united., but a slim majority says they should come down.

By a 16-point margin, voters say  the Pentagon should not rename the bases.

Voters are more likely  to see the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern pride (47%) than a symbol of racism (36%).

Interesting numbers.  Of course, we saw in Virginia what happens when removal is put to a vote.  Six places put it to a vote in November and all six times it was voted to retain the statues.  I don't think the Democrats and Blacks will make that mistake again and have it put to a vote.

They know they'll lose.

Where I Stand on the Confederate Removal Poll-- Part 1

This is about the poll in North Carolina that I wrote about in my last post.

Of course, I don't live in North Carolina and didn't take part in the poll.  The percentages of people in each category who opposed and supported removal absolutely did not surprise me at all.  Probably didn't surprise anybody.

I was born in North Carolina and lived there for essentially the first ten years of my life before moving to Illinois (we lived for a half year in Jacksonville, Florida).

I support the statues remaining where they are.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Education, a Master's Degree in History and 30 hours beyond that.

I am 69 (and will be 70 near the end of May)

I used to vote mostly Democrat starting in the 1990s up until all this mess over BLM riots and attacks on the Confederacy started, so now tend to vote for Republicans.  In the last three presidential elections, I voted for Obama, Clinton and this last year Trump, even though I sure didn't want to.

I am a white person.

I live in a suburban area of Chicago.

As a matter of fact, I would be more than happy to end this blog if all the attacks stopped.  I'd much rather be concentrating just on the real history of the war and not this mess.

The Second Civil War: Arkansas, Polls Nearly Even, Alabama, Jacksonville, New York and Party City

 SEPTEMBER 29, 2020

**  Survey to seek ideas on Fort Smith school renaming.  (Arkansas.  Albert Pike Elementary School.)

**  Poll:  Virginians evenly divided on Confederate statues.  46% support removal and 42% oppose it.  This is a big reason removal people don't want to take the chance of letting the people vote on the issue.  Sadly, Democrats have control of too many localities.)

**  Anniston removes Confederate statue following vote.  (Alabama.  It was a 4-1 city council vote.)

*********************************

SEPTEMBER 30, 2020

**  Crowdfunding efforts to rename Jacksonville Confederate-named schools off to slow start.  (Florida.  Robert E. Lee High School, Kirby Smith Middle, J.E.B. Stuart Middle, Jefferson Davis Middle, Stonewall Jackson Elementary and Finegan Elementary.  Joseph Finegan was a Confederate general.)

**  Town board not keen on request to denounce Confederate flag.  (Rensselaerville, New York)

**  Party City removes Confederate Halloween costumes after white mom of two black girls calls outfits racist.  (Virginia.  Like I said, if you don't like the costumes, don't look at them or buy them.)

A Texas Politician Stands Up to Democrats and BLM

AUGUST 18, 2020

**  Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on Confederate monuments:  Most Texans oppose 'erasing our history.'  (Senate Democrats want everything Confederate gone, Confederadication.  Republican Patrick said no to removing them from State Capitol.  He said:  "...it is important to note that in poll after poll, the majority of Texans, including many people of color, do not want us to tear down our history, especially  in the middle of the night, or out of political correctness.")

We sure need more politicians like him who are not afraid to stand up to BLMers, the NAACP or SPLC.  Maybe we can get him to move to Illinois, or, even better, to Virginia.

Like I've said before, LET THE PEOPLE VOTE ON THE REMOVAL ISSUE.  I'll live by the vote.  If the majority votes for it to go, then so it should be.  But, I doubt that the BLMers will let a vote against them go.  It will be back to defacing and "toppling" statues.

**  Court filing:  Injunction keeping Confederate statue in downtown Lafayette should remain.  (Louisiana.  Statue of Gen. Alfred Mouton.)

**  South St. Louis school named after Confederate officer gets new name.  (Kennard Classical Junior Academy will become Classical Junior Academy.  Samuel M. Kennard was a Confederate officer and founder of the Veiled Prophesy, aligned with the KKK.

Is This Why the Democrats Don't Want the Public Voting on Removal of Confederate Statues? Is This What Is Happening in the U.S.?

JULY 26, 2020

**   Texas Republicans divided in House vote to remove  Confederate statues from US Capitol.  (From the Texan.  Explains how the state statues come to be in the US Capitol Building.

**  From the above article.  Polls.  Should Confederate monuments be removed from public spaces?

A June Quinnipiac poll:    Yes:  52%  No:  44%
A June Harvard poll:   Yes:  42%   No:  58%
A July UT-Tyler poll:  Yes:  38%   No:  43%

No wonder Democrats don't want the issue put to public.  They might lose.

"Congress is acting in a manner divergent from the mob-style justice being countenanced in various cities across the country."

"After nearly two months of civic unrest and riots over the killing of George Floyd the U.S. House voted to remove statues of Confederate figures from the U.S. Capitol grounds."  (So happy to find anyone in the media saying that we are having riots over this.  Usually it is described as a demonstration.)

"Across the nation, a growing movement of iconoclasm mixed with street justice has led to numerous statues being defaced  or even outright destroyed."

"While many have focused on effigies of Confederate figures, others gave targeted  the likeness of  abolitionists  Matthias Baldwin and Hans Christian Heg, and even former president Thomas Jefferson."

What Did the Poll Say About Confederate Statue Removal? Not Too Surprising About Democrats and Blacks

JULY 18, 2020

**  Most Americans support  removing Confederate  statues, poll finds.  Here's the breakdown.  (Kansas City Mo. Star.")

Some of the numbers:

PARTY;  81% of Democrats; 17% of Republicans

GENDER:  57% of women, 50% of men

RACE:  82% of Black people; 51% of white people  (Of interest, Black was capitalized and white wasn't.)
LOCATION:  61% in Northeastern states; 51% in Southern states.

(The Party numbers was not surprising, nor the 82% of Blacks.  I'm just wondering why 18% of Blacks would not want them removed.  I thought those numbers would be 100% for removal.

Pelosi Strikes, Georgia, Conservatives, Republicans, Voting, Polls, Tennessee, Schools, Ole Miss, Texas, North Carolina and U.S. Capitol

JUNE 19, 2020

**  Pelosi orders removal of four Confederate portraits from  the House.

**  Conservatives should feel no investment in Confederate monuments.

**  A controversial Confederate monument  goes down in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur.

**  Siren:  A *majority*  of Americans now back removing Confederate statues.  (CNN   Some interesting facts in this poll.  Like I said, then, let's have a vote.  Even a national vote and let that determine whether they come down or not.)

**  Protesters, petition call for removal of Confederate monument in Murfreesboro.  (Tennessee)

**  Data:  The schools named after Confederate figures.  (At the beginning of June 2020, at least 197 schools in 18 states  named for men with ties to the Confederacy.)

**  Confederate statue removed from central spot at Ole Miss.

**  Momentum swells in NC to remove Confederate, white supremacist monuments and symbols.

**  Is this North Texas school district finally ready to shed its Confederate imagery?

**  Pelosi orders removal of portraits of Confederate House Speakers from US Capitol ahead of Juneteenth.

**  Video:  Senate Republicans block Booker effort  to remove Confederate statues from US Capitol.

Tennessee's Bust, NC Poll and Does Silent Sam = 3-12 Record for UNC Basketball?

February 21, 2020

**  Panel vacancy delays action on Tennessee Confederate bust.  (Bedford Forrest)

**  General's bust in Tennessee Capitol draws  passionate arguments on whether it should stay or go.

**  WRAL News Poll:  NC residents say keep Confederate statues.    (Race and political ideology are major indicators involving the ongoing debate over what to do with Confederate monuments, such as Silent Sam at UNC-Chapel Hill.)

Nearly 2/3 of Blacks polled said the statues should be moved to cemeteries or battlegrounds or from public spaces altogether, while only 12 percent said the statues should be left alone.  Another 14% said the statues should remain where they are, but context plaques be added.

By comparison, 45% of North Carolinians said the statues should remain where they are, and another 25% said historical context should be added.    Only 23% said they should be removed.

10% who voted for Trump in 2016 say the statues should be removed compared to 58% who voted for Clinton.  Residents identifying themselves as conservatives were twice as likely to want the statues to remain than those who said they are liberal.  So, it is a Republican vs. Democrat thing.

I plan on voting for Republicans here in Illinois for most every position other than president.  And, that is for two reasons.  The first is this is the only way I have to show my contempt for the Virginia Democrats and secondly, to try to get Madigan out of being the Illinois Speaker of the House.  I normally split my votes between the two parties.  I voted for Clinton in 2016.  I also voted for Obama in his second term as well as when he was running for U.S. senator from Illinois.

And, I am sure hoping Virginians can turn the Democrats out of at least one of the houses there.

**  UNC promises that Confederate statue won't return to campus.  (That would be Silent Sam.)

I can't help but think perhaps the way the school treats its history might have something to do with their current 3-12 basketball record.  Come on, UNC with that kind of record?  They used to be good.  And, when it comes to major college basketball fans and since I am from North Carolina, UNC was my team.  But, now with this Silent Samia epidemic I'm not so sure.

Embarrassing in Pittsboro NC, We Still Want to Know About Justice to the UNC Students Committing Their Hate Crime, A Poll

February 16, 2020

**  Virginia Democrats at odds over terms of Confederate statue removals.

**  Protesters at a polling site during early voting wave Confederate flags, shout racial slurs.  (Chatham County, NC.  Pittsboro is the county seat. I hate to have this happen.  It makes our side look worse.)

**  Keanu Reeves imposter poses with Donald Trump supporter wearing Confederate flag, causing confusion online.

**  Confederate Railroad to headline concert series.

**  Our View:  Judge rightly overturns sketchy deal on UNC's Silent Sam.  (Fayetteville (NC) Observer  "We applaud students and faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill  for their role in bringing about the judge's decision on Wednesday."  How about  when the justice system will start arresting and prosecuting those very same students and faculty for committing the hate crime in the first place?)

**  Should the legislature increase the fines imposed on cities that remove or relocate Confederate monuments?  (Times Daily of Alabama--  The voting so far:  Yes--  141  No-- 44)

Of Flags, Schools and An Intelligent Look at the Statue Question

January 26, 2020

**  District plans Confederate flag apparel after complaint.  (Colchester, Connecticut.   The parent of a bi-racial student said that a classmate had showed him a sweatshirt with a Confederate flag on it.  All it took was her complaint.  I sure wish I had that much power.)

Of interest.  The Norwich (Connecticut) Bulletin had an online poll asking respondents should offensive apparel, like shirts with a Confederate flag, be banned in school districts.  77% said yes, 23% said no.  I don't know how scientific this is.

**  Alumni sue after Virginia school drops Confederate General's name.   (Washington Lee High School in Arlington County is now Washington Liberty High School.  Again, I am in favor of changing the name of any Confederate-named school if the majority of the students are  Blacks.

**  Letter:  Let monument go to a museum.  (Salisbury, N.C.)

**  Editorial:  Battle of the statues will not end well.(Fredericksburg, Va.)  The Editorial Staff makes a good point.  In other words, if the Confederate statues come down because some find them offensive, then that opens the door for these to come down.  What about statues of:

Founding Fathers--  any one who owned slaves
John F. Kennedy--  sexual relations
Franklin D. Roosevelt--  Thousands of Japanese people forced to relocation centers during WW II.
Harry Truman--  Atom bomb
Union Soldiers--  What they did in the occupied Confederacy
U.S. soldiers--  Any number of things they did in war time.
Martin Luther King Jr--

I would like to add these to the list of things Martin Luther King Jr. had:  sexual relations, violence where he went, the way Blacks responded to his assassination with riots, burning, looting.

Finally, some Words of Wisdom out of Virginia.

The Confederacy Under Attack: A Split in Virginia, and a New Poll

January 14, 2010

**  Franklin County declines to ban Confederate flag in dress code.    (Virginia)  I guess at least something has to come out of Virginia these days.  The only board member to vote against the issue was a black woman.  Five other Blacks spoke against allowing the flag on clothes.  Big surprise there.

**  Virginians deserve to have local control over Confederate monuments.  Well, I agree with this, but it would have to be put before a public vote in order to remove one.  Should the vote be to remove the monument I would go along with it.  We can't leave it up to spineless politicians who are so afraid of the Blacks and their white minions.  Also, we can't leave it up to the courts.

**  What the Confederate flag means in America today.  (YouGov)  They took a poll of 34,000 and found that 41% say it represents racism.  34% say it is heritage.  This was across the whole United States.  The poll also included Blacks.

The Second Civil War: The Dixie Highway, That Gross and Racist Highway

November 26, 2019

**  Sons of Confederate Veterans dismiss case over Franklin stake removal.  At first I thought this was a misprint and should have been statue instead of stake.  But, I read the article which said Franklin, Tennessee, has stakes with the names of Confederate generals killed at the Battle of Franklin.

Six generals were killed at the battle.  A group plans on removing them.

**  'I am scared because I am black.'  Connecticut man ordered to take down Confederate flag after waging harassment campaign against neighbors.

**  'People have thought about this.' :   Majority of North Carolinians want Confederate monuments to stay.

**  Miami-Dade might rename Dixie Highway because its name is gross and racist.

**  North Carolina takes down Confederate statue from courthouse amidst 'high emotions, division, and even violence.'

From November 22, 2019.

**  Another Confederate monument just came down in North Carolina.  How many are left?

**  2 people are accused of damaging Confederate monument in Northwest Arkansas.

**  Majority of North Carolinians want Confederate monuments to stay, poll says.

**  United Daughters of the Confederacy files new argument after dismissed by judge to restore Winston-Salem Confederate monument.
