**  Baltimore's 4 Confederate monuments to be part of Los Angeles art show.  (These monuments should have been given to the SCV or UDC.  I'm sure they will be shown in a negative light.)

**  Duluth  community, school district responds after student brought a c(C)onfederate flag to Denfeld.  (Denfeld HighSchool, Duluth, Minnesota.)

**  California's absurd focus on slavery reparations.  (California reparations?  Get serious folks.)

**  Shenandoah County School Board votes against restoring c(C)onfederate  school names.  (Virginia.  Thus avoiding a SPLC list.)

'They're Back.' So Sad to Say, But the Confedereradication Campaign Is Back

I was so hoping that the fact I had not seen alerts for the word Confederate since August 19, that maybe, perhaps, this continued onslaught against any and everything Confederate was at an end.  However, starting on August 23, as the little girl said in that horror movie "Poltergeist,"  "They're back."

And, they're really back.

Like I said before.  Those people stop their attacks, I'll sure be more than glad to stop this blog.  All it does is upset me tremendously and I already have enough blogs.

I write this just to show that the attacks continue, even if national or regional media does not report it.

**  John Landis discusses  use of Confederate flag in controversial Animal House scene.  (Don't even think about what Pinto and the 13-year-old girl were about to do.  That horrible, horrible, horrible flag, you know.  Well, there was obviously a U.S. flag there as well.  What about that one?  Landis said the reason the flag was there was because they were using an actual fraternity room for the scene and it was already there.  Nobody ever expected it being there would be an issue.)

**  James Weldon Johnson Park's renaming kicks off events celebrating  black history in Duval.  (Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida.  Is it really necessary to turn the renaming into a party as a further slap in the face?)

**  Twilight is trending  again:  Was Jaspar a Confederate soldier?  Here's what fans are saying.  (Talking about the movie.  Would he have to be written out if he was really a Confederate soldier?  Only his hairdresser and BLN knows.)

**  Luke Combs apologizes for Confederate lag pictures.  (Country music star.  He shouldn't have apologized.)

**  Supervisors approve bids to remove Confederate monument.  (Mississippi.  It will cost $80,000 for removal.  Again, cities and counties should not have to pay for this.  Those who want it removed should put their money where their mouths are.)

**  Why do 18 episodes of 'The Muppet Show' come with a content warning on Disney +?  (One shows Johnny cash performing in front of a Confederate flag.  Really? "Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!")

Turning All This Into a Teachable Moment: T.C. Williams High School and Matthew Maury Elementary School in Arlington, Virginia

NOVEMBER 23, 2020

**  Alexandria turns  controversy into  opportunity by teaching  the history of Confederate namesakes.  (Virginia.  Much controversy about renaming two schools:  T.C. William High School and Matthew Maury Elementary.  T.C. Williams is a former superintendent who, according to Blacks, was a racist and wanted to keep schools segregated.  Maury, of course, was a Confederate.

This is a very teachable moment for the kids.  As long as it is a balanced look at the two men.  Along with racists or segregationist tendencies of the two men, their other accomplishments should be noted as well.  Let the kids make up their own minds.

By the way, T.C. Williams High School is the one in the movie "Remember the Titans" about the black and white school football players after the school was integrated in 1971.)

Good teachers always take advantage of a good teaching moment.

Did You Hear the One About Sad R.'s Mayor and His Donor? Confused Ole Miss Football Players.

**  Richmond's top  prosecutor  declines to investigate Confederate statue removal contract awarded to Stoney donor.  (Sad R., Va.  Stoney is the mayor.  The donor received $1.8 million for the removals and his company was formed just a few days before the contract.  Something's rotten here if you ask me.  Kickbacks, anybody?  Must be nice to have friends in high places.)

**  Preservation of history:  Unwanted  Confederate monuments may soon find a new home.  (Ellenbrook home in Elk Garden, Virginia, will take them.  This was the home of William Alexander Stuart, a brother of Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart.  If I ever return to Virginia, I'll go there instead of Sad R.)

**  Petition wants to replace Confederate statue for Chadwick Boseman.  (Anderson, S.C..  Boseman, who just recently died, was the star of "42" about Jackie Robinson and "The Black Panther" and grew up in Anderson.  I agree that a privately funded statue of him is in order, but not replacing the Confederate statue.  Put it up somewhere else in the city.)

**  Saturday protest held over relocation of Confederate statue with no incidents.  (Weatherford, Texas)

**  Ole Miss football team protests police brutality  in front of Confederate monument.  (They probably did not know that there have been no instances where a Confederate monument attacked an Ole Miss football player.  Head football coach was with them.  Time to find a new head football coach Ole Miss.)

**  I know there are a lot of people who don't like the nickname of the University of Mississippi which is the Rebels.  Maybe they should change it to University of Mississippi Black Lives Matter or BLMers for short.

HBO Removes 'Gone With the Wind, But It Will be Back with "Context"

HBO Max has temporarily removed "Gone With the Wind" from its streaming library in order to add historical context to the 1939 film long criticized for romanticizing slavery and the Civil War-era South.

In an op-ed Monday filmmaker John Ridley urged Warner Media to take down "Gone With the Wind," arguing that it "romanticizes the Confederacy in a way that continues to give legitimacy to the notion that the secessionist movement was something more, or better than what it was -- a bloody insurrection to maintain the 'right' to own, sell and buy human beings."

In a statement, AT&T-owned Warner Media, which owns HBO Max, called "Gone With the Wind" a product of its time" that depicts racial prejudices.

The company said that when "Gone With the Wind" returns, it will include 'historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions, but will be presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed."

Were all those people who saw the movie in 1939 idiots?  How about everyone who have seen it since?  It is strange how things can change to what they are now.

Cobb County, Ga., Reaches Compromise on New Park Name-- Part 2:

The compromise was reached Tuesday and the 102-acre park will be named Discovery Park at the River Line.

My problem with the compromise name is that it doesn't say anything about the Civil War, which was the nod to River Line.  Perhaps calling it the Civil War River Line or Defensive River Line would have been better.

It is being developed by  using $1 million from a special one percent sales tax.

Residents of the area originally wanted it named Mapleton Discovery Park, after the surrounding area in Mapleton off Discovery Boulevard.  They said the name was inclusive of the diverse community in which the park is located.

But some historic preservationists wanted the name to include a reference to Johnston's River Line.  The River Line was a series of fortifications built partly by impressed slave labor.  If you remember the scene in "Gone With the Wind" when Scarlett saw some of Tara's slaves marching through Atlanta on their way to build defenses, this would be what it was about.

At Least They Weren't Our Statues and a Funny Movie Trailer

**  Why activists are vandalizing statues to colonialism.  (The Conversation--  Statues around the world are being "vandalized" not just ours.  Two in Canada and one in South Africa.  Shows that a real can of worms has been opened.)

**  Activist filmmaker.  (From the March 17, 2020, Style Weekly.  Spike Lee's screenwriter, Kevin Willmott, has a mockumentary called "Confederate States of America."  Make sure you watch the movie trailer in the article.  It was hilarious.  I had to watch it twice.  So much better than just throwing red paint on a statue.

Since neither of these were attacks on Confederate statues I would have to classify that the virus moratorium is still on.

But seriously, make sure you watch the movie trailer.
