Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

Did You Hear the One About Sad R.'s Mayor and His Donor? Confused Ole Miss Football Players.

AUGUST 30, 2020

**  Richmond's top  prosecutor  declines to investigate Confederate statue removal contract awarded to Stoney donor.  (Sad R., Va.  Stoney is the mayor.  The donor received $1.8 million for the removals and his company was formed just a few days before the contract.  Something's rotten here if you ask me.  Kickbacks, anybody?  Must be nice to have friends in high places.)

**  Preservation of history:  Unwanted  Confederate monuments may soon find a new home.  (Ellenbrook home in Elk Garden, Virginia, will take them.  This was the home of William Alexander Stuart, a brother of Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart.  If I ever return to Virginia, I'll go there instead of Sad R.)

**  Petition wants to replace Confederate statue for Chadwick Boseman.  (Anderson, S.C..  Boseman, who just recently died, was the star of "42" about Jackie Robinson and "The Black Panther" and grew up in Anderson.  I agree that a privately funded statue of him is in order, but not replacing the Confederate statue.  Put it up somewhere else in the city.)

**  Saturday protest held over relocation of Confederate statue with no incidents.  (Weatherford, Texas)

**  Ole Miss football team protests police brutality  in front of Confederate monument.  (They probably did not know that there have been no instances where a Confederate monument attacked an Ole Miss football player.  Head football coach was with them.  Time to find a new head football coach Ole Miss.)

**  I know there are a lot of people who don't like the nickname of the University of Mississippi which is the Rebels.  Maybe they should change it to University of Mississippi Black Lives Matter or BLMers for short.

Ole Miss BLMers.  Nice Ring to It, Right?   --Old Secesh

That Very Slick Memphis. Ole Miss, Portsmouth Va., Stonewall, Mail-In Ballots and Rome

AUGUST 22, 2020

**  Ole Miss players pleased with tarps obstructing view of  campus Confederate monument.  (So glad they are now happy.  You really don't want unhappy football players.)

**  Both sides forge respect during battle over Confederate statues in Memphis.  (In case you don't remember, Memphis found a questionable way to skirt around the issue to remove the Nathan Forrest and Jefferson Davis statues by selling the park to an organization formed just for the occasion. That "organization" then took the statues down.  Very sneaky Memphis.)

**  Portsmouth police chief releases statement about investigation  into Confederate monument protest.  (14 rioters committing hate crimes were charged with felonies.)

**  Stonewall Jackson's arm:  How Clarksburg, West Virginia, grapples with its Confederate heritage."

**  Mail-in ballots were part of a plot to  deny Lincoln reelection in 1864.

**  Scholar expresses interest  in consulting local statue committee regarding Confederate statue.  (Nathan Forrest statue in Rome, Georgia)

About Those Other 'Confederate' State Flags. You Can't Eat Here If You're Confederate. Ole Miss. About Sad Richmond's Mayor

AUGUST 20, 2020

**  Mississippi's flag changing but Confederate symbols  persist in five other state flags.  (This one includes the North Carolina state flag.  Plus, of course, there is also that Norwegian Confederate flag.)

**  Residents weigh in on Confederate statue's place in Lovingston.  (Nelson County, Va.)

**  City of Lexington files lawsuit regarding removal of Confederate monument.  (North Carolina.  The city wants it gone, but it is on county property and the county won't remove it right now.  So, there is more than just bbq in Lexington.)

**  Wake Forest restaurant responds to backlash after denying Confederate group space.  (North Carolina.  Forks Cafeteria.  Sons of Confederate Veterans.  Just remember, if you let BLM use the place, they might start looting or rioting.  At least SCV won't do that.  Okay, you don't want our business, we'll meet and eat elsewhere.)

**  Gainesville  County Commissioners vote  to keep courthouse  Confederate monument.  (Texas.  Wow, how'd that happen?)

**  UM installs  green fencing to shield  Confederate statue from practice field.  (University of Mississippi.  The statue was removed from the center of campus recently to a Confederate cemetery.  Some black football players objected to the new location because they could see it when practicing.)

**  Investigation into mayor's  Confederate monument removal contract requested.  (Sad Richmond's Sad mayor's choice for company to remove statues may be questionable.  It should be looked into further.)

So Sorry That Ole Miss Football Players Have to Be Offended. Hut!  Hut!!   --Old Secesh

Is It confederate or Confederate? Lee University Professor's Unique Approach to Confederate Statue. Not That Lee.

AUGUST 10, 2020

**  Fort Smith Board of Education tables discussion to change  school named after former confederate general.  (20/29 News.  Arkansas.  Or should I write arkansas since they must not know about proper names.  It is one of six schools in Arkansas named after Confederates.)

**  Lee University professor  proposes unique  approach to Confederate statue.  (Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.  Let statue remain but build a cylinder around most of it with quotations by Civil Rights people.  Well, that's a different approach indeed.  By the way, Lee University was not named after you-know-who so its name does not have to be changed.  It was named for Flavius J. Lee, an early leader  in the Church of God and second president of the school.  Goes to show you that a Lee is not necessarily the Lee.)

**  'Why can't I own it?' Fort Bend resident seeking  ownership of monument honoring white supremacists.  (Texas.  There is some question as to who owns the monument in Richmond.  He is a black man.  The statue honors three members of a group called the Jaybirds who were involved in the Jaybird-Woodpecker War 1888-1889.  The Jaybirds were an all-white group and the Woodpeckers were a biracial group.  Seven deaths occurred.)

**  Protesters seek removal of Confederate statue in Collierville.  (Tennessee)

**  Confederate statue to be removed at Ole Miss.  (Moved from prominent campus site to cemetery on campus.  It will cost $1.2 million, paid for by private donations.

Sure Would be Nice If Some People Figured Out That Confederate Is a Proper Name and Should be Capitalized.  --Old Secesh

Well, Bubba, You Started It

JULY 18, 2020

**  Pentagon band Confederate flags from bases in way to avoid Trump's wrath.

**  Ole Miss leader says he's sorry for how the relocation of Confederate statue handled.  (Removed to cemetery on campus where unknown Confederates are buried.  Critics claimed he was turning the site into a tourist attraction.  Come on, you got what you wanted and had the statue removed.  Give it a break.)

**  Macon mayor plans to remove Confederate monuments  for downtown improvements.  (Georgia.  Don't plan on them to be moved back.)

**  NASCAR's Bubba Wallace booed, crashes  as Confederate flags fly in and around racetrack.  (Bristol, Tennessee.  There were a lot of boos when he was introduced and even cheers when he crashed.  Well, Bubba.)

Bad Day for Bubba.  --Old Secesh

Ole Miss, Confederate Flag Over Bristol Motor Speedway, Context, What Context? Schools

JULY 16, 2020

**  University of Mississippi removes Confederate statue from heart of campus.

**  Confederate flag banner flies over Bristol Motor Speedway before NASCAR all-star race.  (Tennessee.  I imagine Bubba was so upset he probably couldn't even race.)

**  African American Heritage Society calls for more context next to Franklin's Confederate monument.  (Tennessee.  I am in favor of leaving statues up and adding context, but, I saw the context added to the Lion of the Confederacy monument in Atlanta.  It was okay at first, but then started giving lots of opinions.  What we need is context with facts, not opinions.

**  A landscaper's view  of the Confederate  statue hornets' nest.

**  Public sounds off on Confederate monument.    (Jackson County court house.)

**  Virginia board votes to change two Confederate school names.  (Hanover County.  Lee-Davis High School and Stonewall Jackson Middle School.)

**  Pensacola  City Council votes to remove Confederate monument, change name of Lee Square.  (Florida.    Lee Square will be changed back to its original name, Florida Square  The monument has been "vandalized," but we all know that means a hate crime was committed against it.)

**  Mississippi  is replacing its state flag, but a Confederate  emblem still flies in Georgia.

Civil War II: Confederates in Washington State? Ole Miss, South Carolina and Virginia Schools

JULY 15, 2020

**  The Confederate legacy in Washington state.  (So, you thought that since the state of Washington was so far away from the fighting during the Civil War that it wouldn't have much, if any, Confederate situations.  Not so.  Read this.  Isn't Washington state where that city is where the mayor let rioters have part of her city for a length of time?  How long did she let them have it?)

**  Confederate statue being moved at University of Mississippi.  (At least it was not torn down by students and faculty like at UNC-Chapel Hill.)

**  Bamberg County Council votes to remove Confederate statue.  (South Carolina .  Hey, William Seaborn Bamberg had a plantation and you know what that means.  Will the city and county names be changed next?

**  2 Virginia schools will no longer be named after Confederate leaders.  (Lee-Davis High School and Stonewall Jackson Middle School.  Hanover County is predominantly White.  While I agree that the name of any school that is named after a Confederate and predominantly Black should have the name changed, this was not necessary other than PC.)

JUNE 19, 2020

**  Pelosi orders removal of four Confederate portraits from  the House.

**  Conservatives should feel no investment in Confederate monuments.

**  A controversial Confederate monument  goes down in the Atlanta suburb of Decatur.

**  Siren:  A *majority*  of Americans now back removing Confederate statues.  (CNN   Some interesting facts in this poll.  Like I said, then, let's have a vote.  Even a national vote and let that determine whether they come down or not.)

**  Protesters, petition call for removal of Confederate monument in Murfreesboro.  (Tennessee)

**  Data:  The schools named after Confederate figures.  (At the beginning of June 2020, at least 197 schools in 18 states  named for men with ties to the Confederacy.)

**  Confederate statue removed from central spot at Ole Miss.

**  Momentum swells in NC to remove Confederate, white supremacist monuments and symbols.

**  Is this North Texas school district finally ready to shed its Confederate imagery?

**  Pelosi orders removal of portraits of Confederate House Speakers from US Capitol ahead of Juneteenth.

**  Video:  Senate Republicans block Booker effort  to remove Confederate statues from US Capitol.

The Confederacy Under Attack: Birmingham, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tampa Salisbury

June 1, 2020

I will try to get caught up on the Second Civil War since the beginning of June.  These attacks on the Confederacy and Confederate statues in particular  have gone into overdrive since the George Floyd tragedy.

You can bring up most of these by just typing in what I typed.

**  Birmingham mayor orders removal of Confederate monument  in public park.

**  Confederate monuments haunt American democracy.

**  Chancellor commits to Confederate statue relocation.  (University of Mississippi)

**  Now is the time to end Confederate holiday, Alabama Congresswoman says as protests rock the state.  (She is a black woman.)

**  Confederate monument in Bentonville square to be moved.  (Arkansas)

**  Protesters tear down statue, damage Confederate  monument in Alabama.  (They were rioters and in the process of committing a hate crime.  This was the statue in Birmingham.)

**  Group takes down huge Confederate flag in Tampa.  (The local SCV flies it and they also took it down.  This was after word of a possible protest to be held at the site to take the flag down.)

**  The latest:  Birmingham begins removing Confederate monument.

**  Shots fired, two arrested following argument with Confederate group at BLM protest in Salisbury.  North Carolina    (Sadly, the shots were fired into the air by a member of the Confederate group  We do not need this sort of counter protest.  Hopefully he will be charged and tried.)

Civil War II: Ole Miss, Marines, Army and Charlottesville

March 4, 2020

**  Lawmakers introduce bill that would block Ole Miss from moving Confederate monument.  (Of course, I would like to know if Ole Miss and other state colleges still receive state aid since they won't fly the state flag on campus.)

**  Confederate imagery now banned from all Marine bases.  (What if someone has a Confederate tattoo?)

**  The Army should rid itself of symbols of treason.

**  Charlottesville will celebrate the end of slavery as an official holiday instead of Thomas Jefferson's.

Silent Sam Back in the News and Virginia's Confederate Statue Removal Bill

February 14, 2020

**  What happens next to the Confederate monument Silent Sam?

**  Judge overturns UNC's agreement giving Silent Sam statue to pro-Confederate group.  (charloFrom that Confederate-hating Washington Post.  They must be rejoicing there on the editorial floor.)

**  State lawmakers approve Confederate statue removal bill:  So what happens next?  (I have not seen that the governor has signed it yet.)

**  How Ole Miss Athletics help push out Confederate traditions.  (Actually a very fair appraisal of the situation.)

**  Birmingham mayor fights to remove Confederate monuments.  (Remember, the mayor is a black man.  Who'd figure?)

**  In victory for students, court rescinds $2.5 million settlement over UNC's Confederate statue.  (And remember, they were the ones who committed the hate crime by illegally tearing Silent Sam down.  And, on top of it, no arrests have been made, none have been expelled from school.  Now, they want justice?)

**  Hearing continued for two charged with vandalizing Confederate statue.  (Charlottesville, Va--  Being arrested for such action had to come as a shock to them.  Why isn't the other side crying foul on this?)

**  Virginia Democrats at odds over terms of Confederate statue removals.  (Glad to see this removal is not just going to be a feeding frenzy, gloating thing, hopefully.)

The Confederacy Under Attack: Name Change, When One Is All It Takes, GOP=Confederacy?

February 3, 2010

**  South Carolina's Relic Room Ponders Name Change.

**  Va. school board member  wanted to ban Confederate  flag attire.  Others disagreed.  (From the Confederate-hating Washington Post.  Just because one person doesn't like something, it is up to the majority to make the final decision.  Not the ONE!!)

**  A holiday whose time has passed.  (Guess which one.  Lee-Jackson Day)

**  CNN reporter compares GOP senators to "the Confederacy" after voting against additional witnesses.  (And guess whose side CNN was on.  For that matter, guess whose side Fox News was on.  Wouldn't it be wonderful to have media who don't take sides.)

**  Opinion:  We need to stop sayin' 'Ole Miss'  (From the Univ. of Mississippi student newspaper.  You know, Ole Miss and that "S" word.)

Maybe "Ole Wus?"  --Old Secesh

Will the UNC Radicals Ever Get Over the Silent Sam Deal?

February 1, 2020

** Behind closed doors:  The UNC System concealed $74999 deal's role in Confederate payoff.  (From the Daily Tarheel, UNC student newspaper.  It is very anti-Confederate.  I'd like to know their role in the hate crime committed against Silent Sam that started this whole mess.)

**  Neo-Confederate group slams House guest speaker for their inclusion in controversial prayer.  (Delivered at the Florida House of Representatives.    Neo-Confederate refers to  the group Save Southern Heritage.  Don't you just love the term Neo-Confederate.  Makes you think Neo-Nazi, doesn't it.)

**  UNC essentially paid Confederate group to sue over 'Silent Sam.'  (Just remember, none of this would have happened had they not illegally torn the statue down.)

**  Athletics, UM Foundation, UM Alumni Association support monument relocation.  (Ole Miss)

Still Mad About Silent Sam Settlement and Ole Miss on Statue Relocation

January 31, 2020

**  Top UM fundraisers, including current athletic director, support Confederate statue relocation.  (Ole Miss.  At least they propose moving it to an in-campus Confederate cemetery.  But now, what about the school's nickname, the Rebels?)

**  Seeking to nix $25 million deal , UNC alumni say Confederate group never owned 'Silent Sam.'  (Again, had the UNC students not committed a hate crime and torn down the statue, this would not have been a problem.  But this is the second time I've read an article about this "group of UNC alumni and donors" and as of yet, I have not seen the name of the "group" other than there are almost a hundred of them.  Who are they?  Are they a group of black alumni and donors?  Inquiring minds would like to know.)

** Group of UNC alumni say pro-Confederate group had no standing on Silent Sam suit.  (This article says there are 88 alumni in the group, including 14 members of the UNC Black Pioneers.  Also, some of the alumni are alumni of note and lists names.  Two of these were Whites and two were Blacks.)

**  Letter:  Confederate generals are still honored by the Army , too.  (From the Washington Post which is becoming a major anti-anything Confederate source.)

Imagine the SCV Being Considered Pro-Confederate.  --Old Secesh

Civil War II: A New Confederate Monument in Florida (What? No Protest?)

January 23, 2020

**  Tallahassee Guards  dedicate Confederate monument.  (Tallahassee, Florida)  I imagine this will really upset "some" folks.  What?  No Protest?

**  Loudon advances 'Path to Freedom,'  Confederate statue's future called into question.  (Virginia)  They are also looking into adding some more statues to tell the story of slavery and the civil rights struggle in the county.  I am always in favor of more historical monuments and markers.

**  Opinion:  Don't move Confederate monuments, talk about slavery, history.

**  Judge to hear arguments to remove protection for Confederate statue in downtown Lafayette.  (Louisiana)

**  Ole Miss students want to move Confederate monument.  Here's how lawmakers could stop them.

**  NC Board of Elections asked  to probe Confederate group and its political activities.  (Had those "students" not illegally destroyed Silent Sam, none of this would be a problem.  By the way, what legal actions have been taken against the "students"?)

Problems With MLK Day, Schools, Statues

January 21, 2020

**  Opinion:  The Confederate context IHL needs to consider.  From an Ole Miss student who compares slavery to concentration camps.

**  In Alabama, Martin Luther King Day also honors Confederate Robert E.Lee.

**  Lakeland confederate monument dispute heading to federal court.  (Florida.  Don't you just love it when a media source spells Confederate with a small "c."

**  Confederate flag nothing like the Stars and Bars.

**  Confederate memorial draws protest on MLK Day.  (Orange, Texas)  They drew six people for the protest.

**  Virginia school board ignores racism, refuses to ban Confederate flag clothing.  (Franklin County)

Civil War II: Wearing the Flag, That Silent Sam Case, Ole Miss Monument and HBO

January 16, 2020

**  Virginia school students can wear  the Confederate flag on clothes.  Rocky Mount, Virginia.  (Can you believe this was in the New York Daily News?  Mighty big issue in a city that has no other issues.)

**  Quite a few headlines on the Civil Rights group getting involved in the Silent Sam case.  (Instead of being mad about the money the SCV is getting, they should be happy they weren't prosecuted for the hate crime they committed and destruction of public property.)

******************************

January 17

**  Miss. IHL board delays vote on relocation of Confederate monument  on Ole Miss campus.  (Institutions of Higher Learning).  (Does Ole Miss still get state funding even when they won't fly the state flag?  Sounds like a case of secession to me.  Maybe they shouldn't be getting state funding as long as they don't fly the flag.)

**  Confederate:  HBO cancels controversial series from Game of Thrones creators.  The series never got off the ground because of people being offended.  Hey, even the name.

I Say, Let the State of Mississippi Vote on the Flag.   --Old Secesh
