Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

Goodbye Fort Hood. Last Civil War Widow Dies. The Problem with Those Confederate Statues and License Plates and That Flag Inside the Capitol

JANUARY 6, 2021

**  Defense bill will force Fort Hood to change its name.  (Texas)

**  The last known  widow of a Civil War veteran has died in Missouri.  She was 101.  (Okay, not exactly Civil War II stuff, but of extreme interest to me.)

**  New Mississippi flag without rebel symbol being put into law.  (Now maybe those state colleges will be able to fly the flag of their state.  I still believe that they shouldn't have received any state funding during their refusal to fly the old flag.)

*******************************************

JANUARY 7, 2021

**  Billboard taken down after calling for removal of Confederate statue.  (Allendale Township, Michigan.  Removed because of complaints.  Text on it:  "Remove the racist  Confederate statue."

**  SC bills seek to ban  vaccine mandates, Confederate  license plates.

**  Trump-supporting rioter pictured carrying a Confederate flag inside US Capitol.  (Not to mention all those US and Trump flags in there and outside.  So, Confederates finally captured the Capitol after failing to do so in 1864.)

Is It confederate or Confederate? Lee University Professor's Unique Approach to Confederate Statue. Not That Lee.

AUGUST 10, 2020

**  Fort Smith Board of Education tables discussion to change  school named after former confederate general.  (20/29 News.  Arkansas.  Or should I write arkansas since they must not know about proper names.  It is one of six schools in Arkansas named after Confederates.)

**  Lee University professor  proposes unique  approach to Confederate statue.  (Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee.  Let statue remain but build a cylinder around most of it with quotations by Civil Rights people.  Well, that's a different approach indeed.  By the way, Lee University was not named after you-know-who so its name does not have to be changed.  It was named for Flavius J. Lee, an early leader  in the Church of God and second president of the school.  Goes to show you that a Lee is not necessarily the Lee.)

**  'Why can't I own it?' Fort Bend resident seeking  ownership of monument honoring white supremacists.  (Texas.  There is some question as to who owns the monument in Richmond.  He is a black man.  The statue honors three members of a group called the Jaybirds who were involved in the Jaybird-Woodpecker War 1888-1889.  The Jaybirds were an all-white group and the Woodpeckers were a biracial group.  Seven deaths occurred.)

**  Protesters seek removal of Confederate statue in Collierville.  (Tennessee)

**  Confederate statue to be removed at Ole Miss.  (Moved from prominent campus site to cemetery on campus.  It will cost $1.2 million, paid for by private donations.

Sure Would be Nice If Some People Figured Out That Confederate Is a Proper Name and Should be Capitalized.  --Old Secesh

The Confederacy Under Attack: Birmingham, Ole Miss, Arkansas, Tampa Salisbury

June 1, 2020

I will try to get caught up on the Second Civil War since the beginning of June.  These attacks on the Confederacy and Confederate statues in particular  have gone into overdrive since the George Floyd tragedy.

You can bring up most of these by just typing in what I typed.

**  Birmingham mayor orders removal of Confederate monument  in public park.

**  Confederate monuments haunt American democracy.

**  Chancellor commits to Confederate statue relocation.  (University of Mississippi)

**  Now is the time to end Confederate holiday, Alabama Congresswoman says as protests rock the state.  (She is a black woman.)

**  Confederate monument in Bentonville square to be moved.  (Arkansas)

**  Protesters tear down statue, damage Confederate  monument in Alabama.  (They were rioters and in the process of committing a hate crime.  This was the statue in Birmingham.)

**  Group takes down huge Confederate flag in Tampa.  (The local SCV flies it and they also took it down.  This was after word of a possible protest to be held at the site to take the flag down.)

**  The latest:  Birmingham begins removing Confederate monument.

**  Shots fired, two arrested following argument with Confederate group at BLM protest in Salisbury.  North Carolina    (Sadly, the shots were fired into the air by a member of the Confederate group  We do not need this sort of counter protest.  Hopefully he will be charged and tried.)

Protesters Target Confederate Statues in Some Cities-- Part 1: Mississippi, Charleston and Raleigh

From the May 31, 2020, Politico, AP.

Protesters marching about the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis also attacked Confederate statues in several cities.  Monuments in Virginia (no surprise there), the Carolinas and Mississippi.  I haven't read the whole article but am sure those "people" in Charlottesville got a chance to spew forth their racist hatred as usual.

The words "spiritual genocide" were sprayed on the Confederate monument on the University of Mississippi campus.  In Charleston, S.C., the base of the "Confederate Defenders" monument was defaced with "BLM" and "traitors."  I have written a lot about this statue in my Civil War blogs.

In Raleigh, N.C., the Confederate monument at the state capitol was marked with an "X" and a shorthand  for a phrase expressing contempt for the police.  The word racist was also written on the monument.

I wonder if these persons committing the looting and hate crimes know that they are doing a whole lot to reelect Donald Trump.

Disgusting Behavior.  --Old Secesh

Silent Sam Back in the News and Virginia's Confederate Statue Removal Bill

February 14, 2020

**  What happens next to the Confederate monument Silent Sam?

**  Judge overturns UNC's agreement giving Silent Sam statue to pro-Confederate group.  (charloFrom that Confederate-hating Washington Post.  They must be rejoicing there on the editorial floor.)

**  State lawmakers approve Confederate statue removal bill:  So what happens next?  (I have not seen that the governor has signed it yet.)

**  How Ole Miss Athletics help push out Confederate traditions.  (Actually a very fair appraisal of the situation.)

**  Birmingham mayor fights to remove Confederate monuments.  (Remember, the mayor is a black man.  Who'd figure?)

**  In victory for students, court rescinds $2.5 million settlement over UNC's Confederate statue.  (And remember, they were the ones who committed the hate crime by illegally tearing Silent Sam down.  And, on top of it, no arrests have been made, none have been expelled from school.  Now, they want justice?)

**  Hearing continued for two charged with vandalizing Confederate statue.  (Charlottesville, Va--  Being arrested for such action had to come as a shock to them.  Why isn't the other side crying foul on this?)

**  Virginia Democrats at odds over terms of Confederate statue removals.  (Glad to see this removal is not just going to be a feeding frenzy, gloating thing, hopefully.)

The Confederacy Under Attack: Name Change, When One Is All It Takes, GOP=Confederacy?

February 3, 2010

**  South Carolina's Relic Room Ponders Name Change.

**  Va. school board member  wanted to ban Confederate  flag attire.  Others disagreed.  (From the Confederate-hating Washington Post.  Just because one person doesn't like something, it is up to the majority to make the final decision.  Not the ONE!!)

**  A holiday whose time has passed.  (Guess which one.  Lee-Jackson Day)

**  CNN reporter compares GOP senators to "the Confederacy" after voting against additional witnesses.  (And guess whose side CNN was on.  For that matter, guess whose side Fox News was on.  Wouldn't it be wonderful to have media who don't take sides.)

**  Opinion:  We need to stop sayin' 'Ole Miss'  (From the Univ. of Mississippi student newspaper.  You know, Ole Miss and that "S" word.)

Maybe "Ole Wus?"  --Old Secesh

Will the UNC Radicals Ever Get Over the Silent Sam Deal?

February 1, 2020

** Behind closed doors:  The UNC System concealed $74999 deal's role in Confederate payoff.  (From the Daily Tarheel, UNC student newspaper.  It is very anti-Confederate.  I'd like to know their role in the hate crime committed against Silent Sam that started this whole mess.)

**  Neo-Confederate group slams House guest speaker for their inclusion in controversial prayer.  (Delivered at the Florida House of Representatives.    Neo-Confederate refers to  the group Save Southern Heritage.  Don't you just love the term Neo-Confederate.  Makes you think Neo-Nazi, doesn't it.)

**  UNC essentially paid Confederate group to sue over 'Silent Sam.'  (Just remember, none of this would have happened had they not illegally torn the statue down.)

**  Athletics, UM Foundation, UM Alumni Association support monument relocation.  (Ole Miss)

Still Mad About Silent Sam Settlement and Ole Miss on Statue Relocation

January 31, 2020

**  Top UM fundraisers, including current athletic director, support Confederate statue relocation.  (Ole Miss.  At least they propose moving it to an in-campus Confederate cemetery.  But now, what about the school's nickname, the Rebels?)

**  Seeking to nix $25 million deal , UNC alumni say Confederate group never owned 'Silent Sam.'  (Again, had the UNC students not committed a hate crime and torn down the statue, this would not have been a problem.  But this is the second time I've read an article about this "group of UNC alumni and donors" and as of yet, I have not seen the name of the "group" other than there are almost a hundred of them.  Who are they?  Are they a group of black alumni and donors?  Inquiring minds would like to know.)

** Group of UNC alumni say pro-Confederate group had no standing on Silent Sam suit.  (This article says there are 88 alumni in the group, including 14 members of the UNC Black Pioneers.  Also, some of the alumni are alumni of note and lists names.  Two of these were Whites and two were Blacks.)

**  Letter:  Confederate generals are still honored by the Army , too.  (From the Washington Post which is becoming a major anti-anything Confederate source.)

Imagine the SCV Being Considered Pro-Confederate.  --Old Secesh

Civil War II: A New Confederate Monument in Florida (What? No Protest?)

January 23, 2020

**  Tallahassee Guards  dedicate Confederate monument.  (Tallahassee, Florida)  I imagine this will really upset "some" folks.  What?  No Protest?

**  Loudon advances 'Path to Freedom,'  Confederate statue's future called into question.  (Virginia)  They are also looking into adding some more statues to tell the story of slavery and the civil rights struggle in the county.  I am always in favor of more historical monuments and markers.

**  Opinion:  Don't move Confederate monuments, talk about slavery, history.

**  Judge to hear arguments to remove protection for Confederate statue in downtown Lafayette.  (Louisiana)

**  Ole Miss students want to move Confederate monument.  Here's how lawmakers could stop them.

**  NC Board of Elections asked  to probe Confederate group and its political activities.  (Had those "students" not illegally destroyed Silent Sam, none of this would be a problem.  By the way, what legal actions have been taken against the "students"?)

January 21, 2020

**  Opinion:  The Confederate context IHL needs to consider.  From an Ole Miss student who compares slavery to concentration camps.

**  In Alabama, Martin Luther King Day also honors Confederate Robert E.Lee.

**  Lakeland confederate monument dispute heading to federal court.  (Florida.  Don't you just love it when a media source spells Confederate with a small "c."

**  Confederate flag nothing like the Stars and Bars.

**  Confederate memorial draws protest on MLK Day.  (Orange, Texas)  They drew six people for the protest.

**  Virginia school board ignores racism, refuses to ban Confederate flag clothing.  (Franklin County)

Civil War II: Wearing the Flag, That Silent Sam Case, Ole Miss Monument and HBO

January 16, 2020

**  Virginia school students can wear  the Confederate flag on clothes.  Rocky Mount, Virginia.  (Can you believe this was in the New York Daily News?  Mighty big issue in a city that has no other issues.)

**  Quite a few headlines on the Civil Rights group getting involved in the Silent Sam case.  (Instead of being mad about the money the SCV is getting, they should be happy they weren't prosecuted for the hate crime they committed and destruction of public property.)

******************************

January 17

**  Miss. IHL board delays vote on relocation of Confederate monument  on Ole Miss campus.  (Institutions of Higher Learning).  (Does Ole Miss still get state funding even when they won't fly the state flag?  Sounds like a case of secession to me.  Maybe they shouldn't be getting state funding as long as they don't fly the flag.)

**  Confederate:  HBO cancels controversial series from Game of Thrones creators.  The series never got off the ground because of people being offended.  Hey, even the name.

UNC Folks Still Upset About Silent Sam Decision and Another Attack on Richmond Monuments

December 10, 2019

**  A university's betrayal of historical truth.  (Upset about UNC and Silent Sam.)

**  Confederate statue at Ole Miss campus:  What next?

**  Group calls on Amazon, Google to remove 'white supremacist, pro-Confederate materials.'

**  What Nikki Haley gets wrong about the Confederate flag.  But one must remember that she was instrumental in taking down the Confederate flag from the South Carolina statehouse.

**  Richmond councilman to introduce resolution giving city ability to remove Confederate statues.  This is regarding to Monument Avenue.  This is the third time he has introduced it.  And, the councilman is a black man.  Big surprise there.  I wonder if this will include the new statue at the Virginia Art Museum?

**  UNC faculty condemns system's settlement  with pro-Confederate group in resolution.  I can't help but think this is funny.  The SCV never would have gotten the money had the statue not been torn down.  I would still like to see what role the "faculty" had in that hate crime that night.

**  How the Daughters of the Confederacy spoiled Christmas.

**  'It's a free country':  Orange County man continues to fly large Confederate flag on his property.

**  UNC students march, protest Confederate statue settlement.  At least they were not able to deface or tear down the monument since they has already done that.   Again, the settlement wouldn't have happened had they not illegally and in a hate crime mode, torn the statue down in the first place.

**  University of Mississippi approves plan to relocate Confederate monument.

**  UNC faculty votes to condemn Silent Sam settlement giving$2.5 million to Confederate heritage group.  No surprise here.  They encouraged and supported students to commit the hate crime destroying the statue.

**  State officials may move Old Miss Confederate monument, but won't scrap it.

**  UNC students march, protest Confederate monument settlement.  They have only themselves to blame.  They tore the statue down.  I have to wonder why they haven't been expelled for criminal activity.

**  Board considers plan on moving Ole Miss Confederate monument.

**  Agency mulls Confederate monument future.

**  Archives board OKs plan to move Ole Miss Confederate statue.

**  UNC students march, protest Confederate statue settlement.  I have to have a big laugh over this one.  It was their breaking the law and hate crime which led to the "payday."

**  Nikki Haley claims _____ ____ 'hijacked' the 'heritage'  of the Confederate flag in church massacre.  Nikki Haley was governor of South Carolina when the Confederate flag was removed from the state Capitol.

I do not believe in naming murderers is the reason for the blanks.  I can not believe this guy is still alive.

**  Crews prepare for statue made in response to Confederate monuments  to be placed at VMFA.  Virginia Museum of Fine Arts

How about that, a new statue going up in the South and believe me it is not a Confederate statue.   I wonder if the Confederate-haters will "vandalize" this one.

Civil War II: Here a Neo,There a Neo. Who's a Neo?

December 4, 2019

**  Why did UNC give millions to neo-Confederate group?  About the "Silent Sam" statue which was torn down by UNC students in a hate crime last year.  I just love the term Neo-Confederate.  Makes you think Neo-Nazi.  Confederate-haters love to use this term.

This was on the opinion page and written by a University of North Carolina history professor.  Well, we know where he stands on the subject.  Must Be a Neo-College Prof.
