Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

About That Geico Ad About the Civil War Massacre

In the last post, I wrote about Geico quietly taking down their ad about a Civil War massacre of black troops.  I hadn't heard about it until that post, but imagined that would have to be the Fort Pillow Massacre.  It was.

Now, why would an insurance company noted for their humorous commercials (I always stop whatever I'm doing to watch anytime one of their commercials comes on) have an commercial about a massacre? Not very funny at all.

Seems it was an "Oops" on their part.

From the June 23, 2020, History News Network  "Geico quietly takes down ad  referencing Civil War massacre of black soldiers."

Geico has a reputation for its catchy radio and TV ads and had one  30-second spot ad "Pillow Soft Fortress."  They were hawking homeowners insurance and featured a woman talking about building a fort of pillows in her house and called it her "Fort Pillow."

In 1864, Confederate forces under Nathan Bedford Forrest massacred some 300 Union black soldiers after they had surrendered at Fort Pillow.

A horrible action on the part of the Confederates in a war that both sides did horrible things to each other.

Just One More "Situation" in this Confederadication Campaign.  --Old Secesh

Geico, U.S. Capitol, Fort Bragg, Cal., Knoxville, St. Augustine and Schools

**  California city named for a Confederate general will not put name change on November ballot.  (Fort Bragg)

**  Confederate memorial in Knoxville's Fort Sanders neighborhood vandalized.  (Tennessee.  Of course, this is not "vandalizing" but a hate crime.)

**  Geico quietly takes down ad about referencing Civil War massacre of black troops.  (I haven't seen this one, but, it was in the Washington Post, so take this however you wish.  See next post for details.)

**  Dallas begins removing Pioneer Park Confederate monument.

**  'I'll teach my grandkids to hate you':  Confederate waving Missouri woman says in video.  (A Real Nut Case.)

**  Oldest US city hopes to move forward from Confederate past.  (Well, what about its Spanish past?)

**  Baptists and Walmart criticize rebel-themed Mississippi flag.

**  Hampton has a school named after a Confederate officer.  Leaders are investigating all of the district's namesakes.  (Virginia.  They're just figuring this out?)
