Statue of Lee Comes Down in Sad V.-- Part 2: A Sad Day in U.S. History

"Any remnant like this that glorifies the lost cause of the Civil War, it needs to come down," said Gov. Ralph Northam, who called it, "hopefully a new day, a new era in Virginia.  The Democrat said the statue represented "more than 400 years of history that we should not be proud of."

No arrests were reported and there was no sign of counterprotest.  Workers used a power saw to cut the statue in two, so it can be hauled under highway overpasses to an undisclosed state-owned facility until a decision can be made about its future.

The job was overseen by Team Henry Enterprises led by Devon Henry, a black executive who faced death threats after his company's role in removing other Confederate statues was made public last year.

How Long Have Black Protests Against Confederate Monuments Been Going On. Still About That Chair

**  Black protesters have been rallying against Confederate statues for generations.  (Smithsonian.  The article focused on one attack on a Confederate monument in 1966 in Tuskegee, Alabama.  Excuse me, one doesn't a major groundswell make like what has happened since George Floyd was killed.  I can not remember many other times that the attacks took place.)

**  Lawyer:  Two arrested had no role in Confederate chair theft.  (There's that chair again.)

**  Stone Mountain Park denies permit for Confederate Memorial Day service.  (Georgia.  No big surprise.  Had the SCV been allowed to hold it, guess who would have come out to protest it.)

**  Confederate throne returned, two people arrested in New Orleans.

**  Western Carolina county won't talk about moving Confederate monument,  even at request of city where it is located.  (Burke County.  Morgantown, North Carolina.)

**  Committee recommends placing statue of Nathan Forrest in museum, not in public.  (Rome, Georgia)

**  Anti-racism activists kidnapped Confederate monument and used it as a toilet... or did they?

The Confederacy Under Attack: Louisiana, Virginia, Texas and the Navy

**  Protest outside Rapides Parish courthouse to protect  the Confederate monument.  (Alexandria, Louisiana)

**  Crews remove Confederate monument  in Virginia Beach.  (To protect it from BLM, it had been completely covered and a sturdy fence erected around.  You know how much joy it brings BLM to topple another Confederate statue.)

**  Confederate descendant asks King George  to remove monument  that is 'an insult to Black citizens.'  (Virginia.  Poor guy doesn't know his history.  Again, since when do adjectives get capitalized?  Is this the new "African-American" thing?)

**  Arrest made at the Battery while Confederate flag and counter protesters share space. (Charleston, S.C..   It's nice to see some counter-protesting to the BLMers, though.)

The Sad City of Richmond, Confrontations, More Hate Crimes

**  Williams:  For Richmond, the future is now.    We must leave all our Confederate monuments behind.

**  Protesters outnumber  pro-Confederate flag during flag  raise at State House.  (Columbia, S.C.   We're always outnumbered, so what's the big news there? Just as the Confederates in the 1860s.)

**  Confederate statue in downtown Clinton removed after being vandalized.  (North Carolina.  Again, not "vandalism" but a hate crime.   BLM at it again.  However, police are looking to arrest the culprits.)

**  Protesters  of Walton County Confederate monument march to courthouse, met by supporters.  (Walton County, Florida. As usual, statue defenders badly outnumbered.)

Even Facing M ore BLMers and their white minions, it is good to see folks in the know willing to risk their lives to keep BLM from destroying the staues.

Sad Richmond, it is on my boycott list (which kills me because I am a big Civil War fan) and may be forever.  The city mayor and his white minion (the state governor) have taken their Confederadication to such a level that they can't be forgiven.  I will now start referring to this city as "Sad Richmond."  Too bad Richmond's mayor couldn't have been more like Savannah's mayor in regards to hate crimes done to Confederate monuments.

So, Ending Police Brutality Means "Vandalizing" Confederate Statues and Pulling Them Down in Virginia

And, I use the word "vandalizing" in the headline in italics because it is actually a hate crime.

"Protesters toppled the statue of a Confederate general in Richmond, Va., Saturday night (June 6) it was the latest of a number  of monuments to the former slave-owning South  to be pulled down by protesters and public officials as people nationwide demand racial justice and an end to police brutality.

"The protesters defaced  the statue of Confederate Gen. Williams Carter  Wickham in the city's Monroe Park., which sits on Virginia Commonwealth University campus, before using ropes to pull it down.

One person reportedly urinated on it before running away.

I Saw What the "Protesters" Did to the Lee Monument in Richmond

"Protesters?"  They were really rioters and looters.

That was sure a huge amount of "vandalism" as they like to call it.  And, I am sure all the Confederate monuments on the avenue were similarly marked.  Could this be considered a hate crime?

Sadly, the amount of time it took to do that meant that the police must have been there and allowed it to go on. Probably figured that it was better to have the "protesters" doing that than looting and pillaging or causing confrontations.

I'm sure that statue in front of the Virginia Art Museum just off the avenue was untouched.
