Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

FEBRUARY 15, 2022

**  Confederate flag now flies where  Robert E. Lee bust once sat.  (Fort Myers, Florida)

**  A freed slave was a Savannah war hero.  Melt down a Confederate bust and make him a statue.  (Savannah Morning News)

********************************

FEBRUARY 16, 2022

**  Old statues of Confederate generals are slowly disappearing -- will monuments honoring people of color replace them?  (Unfortunately, yes.  It is too bad that we couldn't leave the Confederate ones up and add the ones for Blacks.)

**  Idaho bill would require state approval to remove monuments.  (Idaho?  Really?)

**  Savannah leaders say Martin Luther King Jr. monument marks progress made and to be had.

Civil War II: King George, School Name Changes in Florida, Fort Belvoir in Virginia, Louisville and Savannah

JUNE 3, 2021

**  King George plans to relocate  Confederate monument to cemetery.  (King George County, Virginia.  I don't know about you, but I thought it was the Revolution all over again when I see the name King George.)

**  6 things you need to know about the Duval County school renaming process.  (Duval County, Jacksonville, Florida)

**  Fort Belvoir among installations under review for new names.  (Virginia.  It was not under the original change-the-name drive.  But was named for the plantation that was at the site of the fort.  Originally named Fort A.A. Humphreys, a Union general during the war.  Maybe change it back to that.)

Nathan Bedford Forrest's Remains, Memorial Day Outrage in Massachusetts, Changing School Names in Jacksonville

 JUNE 2, 2021

**  The remains of Confederate  General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife are being removed from a Memphis park.  (This is being paid for by the Sons of Confederate veterans.  This should have been paid for by those desiring it to be removed.  But at least certain people won't be able to desecrate it any more.)

**  Confederate flag  incident on Memorial Day ceremony sparks outrage.  (Massachusetts.  One guy held up a Confederate flag.)

**  Duval  School Board votes to change 6 Confederate -tied schools including Lee.  (Jacksonville, Florida)

**  Removal of Confederate busts from Forsyth  Park not a matter of if, but when.  (Savannah, Georgia)

***************************************

JUNE 3, 2021

**  Stolen Confederate  chair back in place -- with glue.  (The Selma, Alabama chair.)

**  Donations roll in  following DCPS decision to rebrand six confederate-named (Confederate) schools.  (Jacksonville, Florida.  Looks like WJXT News 4 in Jacksonville would know that Confederate is a proper name and should be capitalized.  At least the people wanting the name changes are paying for it as it should be.)

Sad R., Statue Removal Costs, Savannah, North Carolina and Louisiana

OCTOBER 11, 2020

**  The legacy of slavery and voting patterns in US elections.

**********************************

OCTOBER 12, 2020

**  Nonprofit raises $45K towards city's $1.8M Confederate monument removal bills.  (sad R again.  Again, all money for removals should be paid by those who want them removed and should not come out of public funds.  And, in the case of sad R., the mayor and governor should pay with their own money as well.)

**  Peaceful protest held at Confederate memorial in Forsyth Park.  (Savannah, Georgia.  Isn't it amazing that BLM can have a "peaceful protest?"  The statues have already been "vandalized" several times and a fence has been constructed around them.  But, at least it was a peaceful demonstration with no confrontations or hate crimes committed.)

**  For fourth consecutive meeting, commissioners asked to remove Confederate  monument from county property.  (Catawba County, North Carolina.)

**  Court hearing on removing Confederate statue delayed by courthouse closure.  (Lafayette Parish, Louisiana.    Closed in aftermath of Hurricane Delta.  Statue of Gen. Alfred Mouton.)

Cemeteries Become BLM Targets, Even Brazil

JULY 12, 2020

**  As a Black woman  from the South, removal of Confederate symbols important to me.  (CNN)

**  Hundreds demanding removal  of Confederate statue in Graham met by counterprotesters.  (North Carolina)

**  Southern Democrats' split with Republicans over Confederate symbols is more recent than you think.

**  Courthouse's Confederate statue enters Giles County drug case.  (Pearisburg, Virginia.  A black defendant believes he can't get a fair trial with the statue outside the courthouse.  (Where will it end?)

**  Letter:  Confederate monuments:  The fake news of the time.

**  They lost the Civil War and fled to Brazil.  Their descendants refuse to take down the Confederate flag.  (Washington Post)

**  Sylvia approves resolution to ban Confederate imagery from town property.  (North Carolina.  Such a huge surprise.  What will Sylvia's mother say??)

**  Statue at Confederate graves vandalized  at Savannah cemetery.    Placed at Laurel Grove Cemetery in 1879.  Statue of a woman named "Silence."  Spray-painted and broke the statue's hand.   The mayor, a black man, vows to find the people who did this and prosecute them.  Too bad he can't be the mayor of Richmond, Va.  Again, this is not vandalism.  It is a hate crime.)

**  Cemetery vandals hit Confederate markers.  (Oakland Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas.  Spray-painted and broke it enough that it can't be repaired.  Lots and lots of obscenities.)

Like I Said, Cemeteries Are Next On the BLM Hit List.  --Old Secesh

Confederate Flags in Cemeteries, Savannah, Civil Rights Movement and the NRHP

February 24, 2020

**  Deal hit to heal breach  over rebel flags in Eureka Springs Cemetery.  (Arkansas--  Someone complained.  Guess?  All it takes is one of these people to complain.  47 Confederate and 97 Union soldiers buried there.  In the past, the flags have been "removed" by an individual.

**  Panel addresses inequities  of historic Savannah monuments.  (Panel of local activists, so we know where they stand.  Personally, I would like to see more monuments to deserving Blacks.)

**  Photos: The fight for integration in Winston-Salem.  (North Carolina-- Demonstrators at the Woolworth's lunch counter where the black students were seated waving Confederate flags.  This is a big reason why Blacks dislike the Confederate flag and I don't blame them for it.  Those people "hijacked" the Confederate flag.  I hate when that happens.)

**  US 'honor roll' of historic places often ignores slavery.  (This would be the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP).  I would also like to see more slavery sites on the list.)
