Virginia 'Woke.' Community Colleges, Texas, Georgia, Lynching, Confederate Flags, and a Union Monument

**  Virginia changes names  of multiple community colleges amid racial reckoning.  (Washington Post.  Big surprise they'd write something like this.  You must mean "Woke."

**  Caldwell County Courthouse Confederate monument will move to museum.  (Texas)

**  Georgia students suspended after making plans to protest Confederate flag.

**  Confederate monuments  and the history of lynching in the American South.  (I doubt that any statue lynched anybody.)

**  Norwin students wear Confederate flag to school.  (Pennsylvania)

**  County hopes to meet with Union monument owners.  (Perquimans County, North Carolina.  They want to move it to the courthouse, where there is a Confederate monument.  This monument is dedicated to black soldiers in the war.  I can definitely go with that.  All sides of history need to be shown.)

The Problem With Police. Confrontations Can Lead to Bloodshed. Was This a Case of Mistaken Identity?

**  Black Dallas church alleges intimidation by pro-police rally.  (I wrote about this earlier and have to say the church has a point in this matter.  But putting up a BLM banner means they're picking a side.)

**  What's the problem with the police?  Start with the negative reporting about them.  (Definitely.  I was just watching the Chicago police release video footage of protests at Columbus statue which shows what those officers had to endure, 49 police injured with 18 hospitalized.  Then during questions, all one reporter harped on was the black activist female who was injured by a cop that night.  Also the media being reluctant to call a protest that gets out of hand a riot as well as not saying these riots and looting take place during BLM activities.)

**  Man who pointed a sniper rifle at crowd at Weatherford protests arrested, deputies say.  (Well, first off, those "protests" were violent by then, so actually more of a riot.  This is what scares me the most as there will always be armed persons on both sides and all it takes is one little thing to cause that to erupt in bloodshed.  The police did the right thing in arresting him.)

**  East Atlanta's Gen. McPherson  monument mysteriously damaged.  (Georgia  Who do we know that goes around attacking statues these days?  Oh yes.  And Gen. McPherson was a Union officer, not a Confederate one.  And the monument is located where he was killed during the Civil War.  Watch the video of Lenora Scott.  She is quite a wonderful lady.)

Fort McPherson Has a Nice Ring To It

**  A name worthy of honor.  (McPherson, Kansas, named after Union Gen. James Birdseye McPherson.  A monument for him sits on the lawn in front of the McPherson County Courthouse.  (Fortunately, BLM has not mistaken it for a Confederate officer).  Suggests Fort McPherson as a replacement name for Fort Hood.  McPherson was one of the Union's best generals and was killed at the Battle of Atlanta.

I could definitely go with this name.  As I have said before, I am in favor of renaming Army bases with Confederate names, but  those who want and demand  the bases be renamed, to put their money where their mouths are and pay any expenses incurred in doing this.

Also, I do not favor any of these bases being renamed for Blacks (although I am sure they all will be) for at least ten years, as that would be a slap in the face for those of us already losing all the statues and having our ancestors denigrated.  After ten years, rename some of the bases after Blacks.  I could definitely appreciate a  Fort Colin Powell.  A great man and I sure wish he would have run for president, but I guess he was too smart to get involved in that mess.  As a matter of fact, I would support a base being named for him right away.

Lt. Col. Nancy Harkness Love
Navy Lieutenant Susan Ann Cuddy
Mae Krier  (Rosie the Riveter)
Colonel Ruby Bradely

Again, any of these as long as they are not Black.  But after ten years, it can be changed.

Army Base Confrontation Continues and a Union Monument to Be Moved?

**  Thomas Knapp:  A proposal for compromise on 'Confederate' military bases.

**  Trump insists he will veto  defense funding over Elizabeth Warren amendment  to purge Confederate names from military bases.

**  Peak says relocation of Union memorial workable.  (Cleveland, Tennessee.  A council member there wants to move the Union memorial monument in Fort Hill Cemetery placed by the Grand Army of the Republic and have it placed by the Confederate monument in town.  Really?  Moving a Union monument.  I only thought Confederate monuments were being moved.)

**  House  panel intensifies  showdown with Trump over renaming of Fort Hood.

**  Move to rename 'Bloody Sunday' bridge has critics in Selma.  The Pettus Bridge involved in the Civil Rights Movement.
