Why Not Rename Fort Bragg After the Union General Bragg, Not the Confederate One? A Surprise Vote on School Names in Jacksonville

**  King George Confederate monument will be discussed in June.  (Virginia)

**  Wisconsin senator proposes renaming  Fort Bragg after  Union cousin of Confederate general.  (A state senator wants it named after Braxton Bragg's  cousin, Union General  Edward Stuyvesant  Bragg of Wisconsin.  Good idea.  That way they wouldn't have to go through all that expense of changing the name.  I had never heard of this Union general and will have to do some more research.)

**  Duval  County school stakeholders vote to rename  5 schools named for Confederate leaders.  (Jacksonville, Florida.  I bet everyone of them will be named after black folks.  Well, that was my thought at first, but looking at the new names, they definitely aren't:

Joseph Finnegan Elementary to Anchor Academy

Stonewall Jackson Elementary to  Westside Academy

Jefferson Davis Middle School to Westside Middle School

J.E.B. Middle School to  Westside Middle School (However these last two are the same name.)

Robert E. Lee High School to Riverside High School

Voters chose to keep the names of three schools:

Jean Ribault Middle School

Jean Ribault High School

Andrew Jackson High School

The last time a school name was changed in Jacksonville it cost $180,000.

New Orleans Prepares to Shame Itself Again

NOVEMBER 27, 2020

**  See 37 New Orleans  streets, sites up for renaming, and who would be newly honored:  City Council considers stripping ties to Confederacy, segregation, denial of civil rights.  (Way out of line.  Looking at the current names, everyone of them will be renamed after a black person.)

If New Orleans really wants to completely do away with its connections to these things, they need to tear down the whole city and rebuild elsewhere.  Why go part way when you can go all the way.  The city was built by slaves.

I notice Jackson Square is not under consideration for renaming.

By the way, New Orleans.  What has been done with the Confederate statues already taken down?  These should be turned over to UDC or SCV and all expenses paid for relocation.  Better yet, let the people who wanted them removed pay for it themselves.

Worth checking out the names and proposed new names.

At the very least, let the people decide on renaming.  Put it to a vote.  There should be enough Blacks and their white minions in New Orleans to pass renaming .

Renaming Confederate sites after Blacks is just a slap in the face and pouring salt into the wounds.

Is Kansas City Going the Way of Sad R.?

My question is this.  Has that Virginia water that has so adversely affected Sad R., now in Kansas City, Missouri?

From the January 25, 2020, Kansas City (Mo.) Star "Confederate monument looms over black neighborhood in Kansas City.  It's here to stay" by Eric Adler.

The article on the Confederate monument in the Forest Hill & Cavalry Cemetery.

But, it starts off with things that have been done in the Kansas City area that would be considered anti Confederate and history.  Some of them:

**  Deemed a racist,  developer J.C. Nichols' name only months ago was stripped  from the fountain on the Country Club Plaza he built.

**  Because he was a slaver responsible for the deaths of thousands of American Indians, Andrew Jackson's statues may soon be razed  from in front of courthouses in the county that bears his name, if voters agree next week.

**  As Kansas City area officials  seek ways to publicly recognize and, in some ways, make amends for the city's racist history,  a plan to change some Kansas City street names is underway.

What next?

Possibly changing the name of the county.

Making the President Truman complex move out of Independence because he authorized dropping the atom bombs.

Beginning to sound a lot like Sad R.

And Now This, About Those Andrew Jackson Statues

From the December 16, 2019, Kansas City (Mo.) Star  "Frank White says minority groups should have had a say about Andrew Jackson statues"  by Mike Hendricks.

Over the objections of Jackson County Chief Executive Frank White, the county legislative assembly voted Monday to affix historical context plaques to statues of Andrew Jackson  outside the Kansas City courthouse and the Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence.

He would like some input on those plaques from Blacks and Indians on what the plaques say about his being a slaveholder and what he did to the Indians as both a military leader and president.

Well, at least they aren't being taken down (yet) and as of yet haven't been the victims of hate crimes from you-know-who.

And, in case you are wondering, Mr. White is a black man.

But at least the drive here is for context, not destruction and removal.
