**  Commission votes to add historical (context) texts  to walls around  Caddo Confederate monument.  (Louisiana.  Beware these texts.  They are good as long as factual.  Most of what goes up on these today are just current opinion of some people.)

**  Madison County may fight $25,9000 fine for removing Confederate  monument: 'We did what was legal.'  (Alabama.  Sorry guys, it is still illegal at this time to remove a Confederate monument in your state.)

University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson-- Part 2: 'Contextualize'

 While removing the George Rogers Clark statue and changing names of other Confederate/slave owner-named places, the university has to reach a decision as to what to do about its connection with its founder, Thomas Jefferson.

A big reason the university is what it is today is because of what Mr. Jefferson prescribed for its construction and aims back in the early 1800s.

The Univ. of Virginia Board of Visitors also voted to "contextualize" the statue of Thomas Jefferson-- primary author of the Declaration of Independence, third president of the United States and UVA's founder.  The statue is located on the north side of the university's rotunda.

In a press release, the school "acknowledged Jefferson's contributions to the University and the nation, but also pointed out that he owned slaves and used slave labor at UVA, in direct contradiction to the ideals of liberty and equality he professed."

I have seen this so-called context on other statues.  Sadly, what this means is a whole lot of opinions that are now in vogue, but down the line will not be.  I could accept something along these lines.  Besides his accomplishments, it should say: "Jefferson owned slaves which was legal in the country at that time and also he had slaves do a lot of the construction of this school.  His view of liberty and equality reflected the general views of most white people at the time and they did not believe in that for black people."

**  It's Time for us to change  the course of history.  (About a Confederate monument in Galveston, Texas.)

**   Williamson County may form committee to discuss removal of Confederate statues.  (Texas)

**  St. Augustine passes motion to move Confederate monument.  (Florida)

**  Construction crews removing the base of Confederate monument in front of courthouse.  (Durham, N.C.  The statue was toppled by BLMers and their white minions in August 2017 after the Charlottesville, Va. confrontation.  What was left was removed for public safety.)

**  Virginia judge grants new  injunction against removal of Confederate statue.  (The Lee statue in Sad Richmond will remain up for at least another 90 days.  This should be a great embarrassment to the city the way it allowed it to be desecrated.  I wish it was down now.  It hurts to see it standing there covered with all that obscenity and all those BLM hate crimes.  You know that in most U.S. places, if you even "vandalize" a public monument, you'd get arrested.  However, it seems to be okay to do that in Sad Richmond.)

**  Gettysburg Confederate monuments to get new panels to offer more historical context.  (In front of each of the 12 Confederate state monuments.  I've seen a few of these "context" markers.  Lots and lots and lots of people's opinions and very anti-Confederate.  I'm against.  If they want to write on them that the war was fought partly because of slavery, I'd be alright with that.)

Problems With MLK Day, Schools, Statues

**  'Unifying' art replaces mural that featured Confederate flag.  (In Florida State Capitol.)

**  Va. school board will not ban Confederate flag in dress code.

**  Students back in court over Confederate statue case.  (A national civil rights organization called Lawyers' Committee  for Civil Rights Under Law filed it on behalf of five students and a teacher to intervene in the Silent Sam situation.)  Looks like we have another racist organization out there.

**  Texas school board starts 'new age of understanding,'  drops Confederate  song 'Dixie' after years of criticism.

**  Commission Wrap-up:    Commissioner supports revisiting Confederate memorial issue.  (St. Augustine, Fla.)   There is a sign there saying context will be added.  I support adding context to Confederate memorials if that is what it will take to prevent having hate crimes done to them.

And Now This, About Those Andrew Jackson Statues

From the December 16, 2019, Kansas City (Mo.) Star  "Frank White says minority groups should have had a say about Andrew Jackson statues"  by Mike Hendricks.

Over the objections of Jackson County Chief Executive Frank White, the county legislative assembly voted Monday to affix historical context plaques to statues of Andrew Jackson  outside the Kansas City courthouse and the Historic Truman Courthouse in Independence.

He would like some input on those plaques from Blacks and Indians on what the plaques say about his being a slaveholder and what he did to the Indians as both a military leader and president.

Well, at least they aren't being taken down (yet) and as of yet haven't been the victims of hate crimes from you-know-who.

And, in case you are wondering, Mr. White is a black man.

But at least the drive here is for context, not destruction and removal.
