Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

Lake Lanier, Buford Dam, Harriet Tubman and a Rededication

MARCH 11, 2023

**  Lake Lanier, Buford Dam may be renamed; local leaders are already objecting.  (Georgia.  Lake Lanier named for Geirgia native and poet Sidner Lanier who served in the Confederate Army and Buford Dam for Algernon Buford, railroad president who also served in Confederate Army.)

**  Harriet Tubman monument takes Newark space formerly held by Columbus.  (New Jersey)

**  United Daughters of the Confederacy to hold rededication ceremony for Confederate monuments in Macon's Whittle Park.  (Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Georgia.  They had been previously removed from downtown.)

**  Council eyes new location for monument.  (Edenton, North Carolina)

The Second Civil War: Wish If You Must. A Poet, House and 'Sylva Sam'

 DECEMBER 29, 2020

**  Wish.com removes most Confederate merchandise, citing policy against hate, but still sells items, but it still sells items glorifying dictators.  (Yep.)

**  A poet reflects on how we reckon -- or how we fail to reckon -- with the legacy of slavery.

**  House overwhelmingly  votes to override Trump's veto of the defense bill that he refused to sign because it renames Confederate bases.  (Big surprise that a bunch of Democrats would do something like that.)

**  Plywood covers part of  statue as 'Sylva Sam' awaits modifications.  (Jackson County, N.C.  The statue will remain.  But the Confederate flag on the base and some words will be removed.  I'm okay with compromise.  Of course with BLM, there can be no compromise.)

**  Statues do not teach history.
