Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

Should Damaging Confederate Monuments Be Considered a Hate Crime?

JANUARY 14, 2023

**  Opelousas man accused of damaging Confederate monument may face hate crime charge.  (Louisiana.  Damage a black monument, that's a hate crime.  Same should be true if someone damages a Confederate one.)

**  The AP Hill statue is gone, but traffic  problems persist, drivers say.  (Sad R.)

JANUARY 18, 2023

**  Why does Texas celebrate Confederate Heroes Day?

**  In some Southern states, this week's  holiday wasn't just for MLK.  (Guess what they're going after?)

Celebrating Lee and King Birthdays on the Same Day?

JANUARY 18, 2022

**  Alabama 1 of 2 states still combining King-Lee holiday.

**  Renewed effort to drop Confederate general from King-Lee holiday.  (Alabama)

**  Florida lawmakers want to remove three state holidays honoring  the Confederacy. (They will probably replace the Confederate ones with black ones, of course.)

I agree that the two birthdays should not be commemorated on the same day.  However, whose birthday was commemorated first?

Civil War II: Racist Statues? England Wants Alabama to Drop Davis Holiday? Savannah, Fort Bragg and Alabama

JANUARY 16, 2022

**  England pushes for Alabama to drop Jefferson Davis holiday.  (Kind of thought England was more on our side during the war.)

**  Savannah leaders say Martin Luther King Jr. monument marks progress made and to be had.

**  Fort Bragg iconic road returns to original name, first of eight roads scheduled for changes.  (North Carolina.  (Longstreet Street to Long Street)

Confederate Statues Become a Hot Commodity, Joseph Wheeler High School, Relocating, Melting Down Statues

DECEMBER 15, 2021

**  Confederate statues become a hot commodity, Here's where they're ending up.

**  Group pushing for Wheeler High name change to join virtual SPLC panel.  (Georgia.  Named after Gen. Joseph Wheeler.  I wonder where SPLC stands on this.  What do you think?)

**  Washington County Board of Supervisors votes to relocate  Confederate monuments to green space.  (Abingdon, Virginia)

DECEMBER 16, 2021

**  Unsuccessful bidders launch formal protest against melting down of Lee statue.  (Charlottesville, Va.  Perhaps they should find a statue of Martin Luther King and melt it down for public art.)

What Are They Going To Do When All the MLK Roads Need to Be Renamed? Once a Neo, Always a Neo.

MARCH 12, 2021

**  Texas distorts its past -- and Sam Houston's legacy --  to defend Confederate monuments.

**  Lots more road renaming needs to be done.  (What are they going to do when all those Martin Luther King Jr Roads will be needing renaming?   After all, he was not without certain faults that offend.  All this can go two ways, you know.)

**  Florida's Neo-Confederate Republicans intend to stifle voter  turnout.  (Love it when they use Neo, as in Neo-Nazi.  But, the funny thing is that BLM is actually more of a Neo-Nazi group, see Brown Shirts, than most anything else.)

**  NC community has mixed emotions about the move of Confederate monument to neighborhood.  (Chicord, N.C.)

**  Local officials weigh in on potential sites for Confederate marker.  (Bowling Green, Ky.)

The Second Civil War: County Fair, Confederate Flags, Texas, Paying for Removal, Florida, Virginia and Bases

JANUARY 20, 2021

**  Petition calling on Durham Fair to prohibit Confederate flags, revived for Martin Luther King Day.  (Connecticut.  The Middlefield-Durham Racial Justice Team wants it.  How do they stand on allowing BLM stuff at the fair since that stands for rioting, looting, arson, confrontation and hate crimes?  Inquiring minds would like to know.)

**  Confederate flag seen as unwelcome.

**  NIOT:  Ban confederate flag sale at fair.  (Hey NIOT, proper name.  Excuse me.  What about BLM flags?)

**  MLK Jr. Day raises $18K to remove Balstrop Confederate monuments.  (Texas  Again, you want the monuments removed. You pay for it yourself.  Public funds should not be used.

*******************************

JANUARY 21, 2021

**  Fort Myers City Council votes to remove pedestal that held Robert E. Lee bust.  (Florida.  One of these days I'm just sure politicians will develop a spine.)

**  Northam to rename Virginia Beach's Camp Pendleton, which honors Confederate general.  (Virginia. Of course, Northam is that state's governor.  Hopefully voters will remember him when he runs for reelection along with most all of the state's legislature.)

The Insurrection Was a Confederate Resurgence. (Now, There's a Headline!) Arkansas, Flags, Georgia and Virginia

JANUARY 19, 2021

**  Arkansas leaders propose bill to repeal Confederate Flag Day.  (Both of them are white.  Surprising.)

**  The insurrection was a Confederate  resurgence.  (This is a good one.  Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.  Sure does.)

**  Confederate flag here, MLK vigil there (and there).

**  Bill Berry:  Confederate flag in the Capitol is an affront to our  ancestors' sacrifices.

**  Gwinnett  citizens call for the removal of Confederate monument.  (Georgia.  The commissioner pushing this is a black man.  That is not racist?)

**  Virginia holiday commemorating Confederacy no longer celebrated.  (Lee-Jackson Day.  Real big surprise that happened in Virginia.  Will the last Confederate out of that sad state please turn out the light.)

UDC, 'Dukes of Hazzard', Catholics, Second Civil War, Hate Crimes-Not Vandalism

 SEPTEMBER 26, 2020

**  Confederate monument removal advocates in newspaper ad call for public meeting with UDC.  (Calloway County, Kentucky)

**  How 'The General Lee' was left in the Democratic Party's dust.  (Very interesting video about former Democratic Rep. Ben L. Jones.  He also played the role of Cooter Jones on the hit TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard.")

**  Catholics journey across Hampton Roads landmarks to highlight racial inequality.  (Virginia)

**  NYT's Friedman":  'I'm terrified' to find myself covering  America's potential  Second Civil War.  (I'm more than a bit worried about this becoming a bloody Civil War myself.)

*********************************

SEPTEMBER 27, 2020

** Confederate monument in Forsyth Park vandalized.  (Savannah, Georgia.  Again, that is a hate crime, not simple vandalism.  What would it be called if something similar was done to a Martin Luther King Jr. statue?)

**  St. Augustine Confederate monument vandalized overnight.  (Florida)

**  Rewatching 'The Civil War'  during the Breonna Taylor and George Floyd protests.    (Ken Burns PBS series.)

Even in Canada and Washington State. Come On Sad R, Take Down the Lee Statue

AUGUST 29, 2020

**  Protesters in Ridgefield, Vancouver,  rally in support of black lives.  (Canada.  Jefferson Davis Park has two markers for the Jefferson Davis Highway.  For Black Lives Matter and in honor of Dr. King's "I Have A Dream" speech.

**  Confederate statues would be removed from national parks in Gettysburg, elsewhere under Minn.  lawmaker's bill.  (U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, D. Minnesota.  Imagine a Democrat doing something like this?)

**  Virginia Supreme Court gives Richmond green light  to remove city-owned  Confederate statues.  (There you go, Sad R.  Get that Lee statue down immediately.  You should be embarrassed at what you let BLM do to it.  Shows your class.  Since Sad Richmond is so gung-ho to remove all connection it has to the Confederacy, I am already crossing out the name of that city in all my books.

Last night, I was reading a book about the bread riots that took place in that city and just substituted the word "Sad" whenever the "R" word came up.  I doubt that I will ever go there again.)

**  Laura topples Confederate statue  after parish votes to keep it.  ((Lake Charles, Louisiana.  BLM extremely mad that they didn't get to do it.  But even Mother Nature seems to be against us.  A lot of Confederate markers in Wilmington, N.C. have recently been knocked down by hurricanes.)

**  By the way, congratulations to Wilmington, N.C., for becoming the country's first World War II Heritage City.

**  People hurl racist epithets at protesters outside Confederate  memorial in Clark County.  (Washington. The protesters here are BLMers and their white minions.   I see that BLM got a taste of language much like they give everyone else.  They didn't appreciate it.  Sorry guys.  At least none of their homes or businesses were looted and torched.  Sad to see defenders sinking to BLM level.)

Would It Be Vandalism If Someone Threw Paint On or Broke a Martin Luther King Jr. Statue? Or, Would It Be Something Else?

AUGUST 16, 2020

**  Authorities investigate after Confederate statue  vandalized.  Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee.  Again, would it be vandalism if someone did that to a Martin Luther King Jr. statue?  I think not.  Let's call what happened to the Confederate statue it for what it is, a hate crime.  I really hate it when the media refers to the Confederadication of statues as "vandalism."  But, then, they refer the riots committed by BLM as "civil unrest."  A riot is a riot is a riot.  It's time for the media and everyone to regard any BLM activity as a possible riot and with its accompanying looting.)

**  19-year old leading push Confederate statue says she didn't set out to become face of the movement.  (Longview, Gregg County, Texas.  Chelsea Laury.)

*****************************

AUGUST 17, 2020

**  Rally shows support for Augusta Confederate monument.  (Georgia)

**  Protests continue over confederate statue at Talbot Co. courthouse.  (Maryland.  It is spelled Confederate.  Of course, the people in charge voted to keep it.  The BLMers aren't happy about that one bit.)

**  Backroads:  Confederate statue's orbs intrigued pranksters.  (Bell County, Texas.  The problem with cannonballs.  Quite an interesting article.  Well worth a read.  The pranks here have nothing to do with BLM.)

**  Va. House Democrats want to make it easier  for localities to take down Confederate statues.  (A real big surprise here.  One of the reason I am voting against almost all Democrats here in Illinois.)

**  Franklin schools ban Confederate flag, symbols.  (Indiana.  Hopefully they are not allowing the equally offensive BLM stuff in schools as well.  That stands for looting, rioting, attacking police and white people.)

Believe Me.  When a BLMer Does Something to a Confederate Statue, That IS A HATE CRIME!!   That Is Not Simple "Vandalism."  ---Old Secesh

The Second Civil War: When Rice Talks. That Darn Norwegian Flag Again. Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Michigan

AUGUST 5, 2020

**  Condeleezza Rice says Confederate statues are indefensible but that calls to tear down other monuments have 'gotten a little out of control.'

**  Artist shares experience of watching Confederate statues being removed.

**  Task force to consider fate of Augusta's Confederate monument.  (Georgia)

**  Confederate monument vandalized outside Alabama courthouse.  (Huntsville, Madison County.  Again, not vandalism, a hate crime.)

AUGUST 6, 2020

**  Neighbors upset after Confederate street name changed in Harris County. (Houston, Texas.  Changed from Robert E. Lee Road to Unison Road.  However, the reporter spoke to people who lived on the road and they didn't want it changed.  Some said they weren't given a choice.

**  Couple in Confederate flag flap finds a Scandinavian solution.  (Michigan.  Again about that Norwegian flag.)

I Sure Wish They Would Stop Call Hate Crimes Vandalism.  What Would They Call It If Someone Did That To A Martin Luther King Jr. Monument.  I Sure Bet That WOULD NOT BE Vandalism--Old Secesh

The Second Civil War: Monuments, Statues and Memorials, the Washington Post, North Carolina, Fort Sanders and U.S. Capitol

JUNE 19, 2020

**  'History has a place':  Who should decide if Confederate monuments stand in Fort Mill?  (South Carolina.  Like I said many times, let the people vote on the statues.  Don't leave it up to governments or the judicial system.)

**  Parker County's Confederate  veterans statue could be moving soon.

**  Destroying Confederate monuments isn't 'erasing' history.  It's learning from it.  (I had to really laugh at this headline from the Washington Post.  Who'd have figured that newspaper would write something like that?  And, there was no "Kristallnacht or Book Burnings in Nazi Germany in the 1930s either.   That was "learning history.")

**  The Latest:  Protesters pull down Confederate monument in NC.  ("Protesters"?  Really.  They were rioters committing a hate crime and got away with it.)

**  Robert E. Lee mosaic in downtown Fort Myers painted over.  (Florida)

**  Blunt slows move to remove Confederate monuments.  (U.S. Capitol.  U.S. Senator Roy Blunt from Missouri.  What?  Sort of a win for us.  Since the BLM "protesters" and their white minions can't get at these statues to do their usual, this has got to be getting to them.  So sorry guys.  You'll have to wait.  But these statues will be coming down soon enough.)

**Vandals target Fort Sanders statue.  (Guess which side this statue was on.  I wonder if they'd be called "vandals" if they did this to a Martin Luther King, Jr. statue?)

**  As I See It:  Military bases should reflect  American principles  of liberty, justice for all.

I Can't Keep Up With All This

I feel the United States has reached a real turning point in history right now.  Between the pandemic and all this racial unrest, as Bob Dylan said, "The Times They Are a Changing."

And I surely hope this change will be for the better.  Although at present we could even be headed for a racial war just as much as we might be headed for a better United States.  I guess only time will tell.

This is definitely going to be something for "the rewritten history books."  Students will be wondering who Union forces fought between 1861 and 1865.  They'll just know they fought someone whose name cannot be mentioned because of slavery and their racism.  And that these people were absolutely the worst people ever to live on earth.

And, this is not to say anything about what happened to so many of the earliest U.S. presidents.  Who were they and why are they not mentioned?  School children will still be going to Douglass, D.C., and taking tours up to the top of the Tubman Monument and King Memorial (old Jefferson Memorial).

Anyhow, I am attempting to keep up with all that is happening in this storm surge of revisionism, so this is why I won't be doing much in my other blogs as there is so much to write about here.  If the new Civil war ever stops, that will also be the end of this blog.  I sure enjoyed it in April when the virus had all the BLMers and before George Floyd was killed when I only had four blog entries the whole month.

So, Here Goes.  --Old Secesh

Virginia, the Coast Guard and Separating Birthdays

March 8, 2020

**  Virginia lawmakers approve local control of Confederate monuments; must still decide on rules.

**  Lynchburg lawmakers reluctant to remove Confederate monuments.

**  Will the Coast Guard follow  the Marine Corps' lead and ban confederate flags?  (Hey, capital "C".)

**  Liberation and Freedom Days event takes look at Confederate monuments.  (Charlottesville, Va.)

**  Alabama lawmaker wants to separate Martin Luther King , Robert E. Lee holidays.  (I agree, but just remember whose birthday was commemorated first.)

About That Confederate Memorial in Orange, Texas

I wrote about this in my January 24, 2020 blog.

From January 21, 2020, 6 KFDM, CBS, "Confederate memorial in Orange  ignites modern day civil rights struggle" by Angel San Quan.

The Confederate Memorial of the Wind is located on Dr. Martin Luther King Drive.  Some people consider that a slap in the face of the civil rights icon and movement.  You know, the "S" word.

It consists of  13 columns, representing the 13 states of the Confederacy and contains the Confederate flag as well as the flags of Texas Confederate regiments.  It is quite an impressive structure.  It was built by the Sons of Confederate Veterans who chose the site because the land was cheap, not because of the name of the road it is on.

Construction started in 2013 and there has been controversy over it ever since.

Opponents of the memorial have raised money to put up a billboard by it featuring King and one of his quotes:  "A time comes when silence is betrayal."

Confederate Memorial in Orange, Texas, Drawing Opposition, Lee-Jackson Day, Mississippi Bill

January 22, 2020

**  Did Confederate flags fly at a guns rights rally in Virginia?

**  Confederate memorial in Orange ignites modern day  civil rights  struggle.  (Texas)

**  Sons of Confederate Veterans  propose Lee-Jackson-King  Day instead of Lee-Jackson.  (Virginia)  Virginia's Senate passed a bill to remove Lee-Jackson Day as a state holiday.  I would not like to have both Lee-Jackson and MLK commemorated on the same day.

**  You thought Lakeland's Confederate statue was gone?   Not so fast.  (Florida)

**  Lee-Jackson Day luncheon illustrates toil to hold on to Confederate history.  (Lexington, Virginia)

**  Mississippi Senate bill  would prohibit moving public Confederate, other monuments.

Problems With MLK Day, Schools, Statues

January 21, 2020

**  Opinion:  The Confederate context IHL needs to consider.  From an Ole Miss student who compares slavery to concentration camps.

**  In Alabama, Martin Luther King Day also honors Confederate Robert E.Lee.

**  Lakeland confederate monument dispute heading to federal court.  (Florida.  Don't you just love it when a media source spells Confederate with a small "c."

**  Confederate flag nothing like the Stars and Bars.

**  Confederate memorial draws protest on MLK Day.  (Orange, Texas)  They drew six people for the protest.

Poor, Poor Lawbreaking Birmingham, MLK or Confederate, Who came First?

January 19, 2020

**  Alabama court won't reconsider Confederate monument ruling.  (Birmingham, Alabama.  They put up plywood around it and the court ruled that this went against state law protecting military memorials.  I feel so sorry for Birmingham.)

**  This MLK weekend , Texas will again recognize Confederate Heroes  Day.  (Well, at least it was an opinion piece.  Who had the day first?)

**  Lee working to amend Confederate general proclamation.  (Lee is not Robert E. but the Tennessee governor.  He does not want to do a proclamation for Nathan Bedford Forrest.)

**  Confederate Heroes Day ceremony in Longview honors ancestors' dedication.  (Texas)

**  Fight over Lakeland's Confederate monument goes to federal court.  (Florida.  It has already been relocated at a cost of $185,000.)
