A New Battle to Preserve Part of the Cedar Creek Battlefied in Virginia

**  3 Charlotte streets officially drop names tied to slavery, Confederacy.  (North Carolina.  Only one of the three were renamed for Blacks.  And that name, the Montford Point Street is entirely a good one as that was where black Marines trained during WW II.)

I don't mind the changing of names of streets or other items so long as they are not ALL renamed for Blacks.

**  Proposed  Virginia Sheetz on Civil War site draws opposition.  (Middletown, Virginia.  This is where a the Battle of Cedar Creek was fought on October 19, 1864,  and the proposed 19.5-acre site is considered a key part of the battlefield.)

Now, this is what I should be writing about  in this blog, not the hurtful stuff that I normally cover.  I wonder how the other side feels about the loss of an actual battle site.)

**  He opposed civil rights, yet John C. Stennis has a Navy aircraft carrier named after him.  (So now you cam't have your own opinion?)

**  Army won't ban Confederate flag displays without Pentagon approval.

**  Army is taking limited steps to counter racial divisiveness.

**  Naval Academy board chair calls for removal of Confederate names from buildings.

**  US Navy joins Marines in removal of Confederate flag.

**  Trump says he  won't consider renaming  military bases named for Confederate generals.

**  Confederates toppled, Columbus beheaded:  Protesters are  ripping down controversial statues.  (In other words, ones they don't like.  And when they topple or behead they cross the line between protester to criminal.)

What Now, Even a GAR Statue "Vandalized" in Indiana and That Military Thing

**  County posts notice of removal of "camp facilities"  at courthouse protest site; protesters say they were told to leave county property by 10:01 Tuesday or face arrest.  (Bloomington, Indiana.  They even put graffiti on the GAR monument. For those of you who don't know, the GAR was a fraternal order of Union soldiers during the war.  Who'd have figured Union soldiers would get the same treatment as Confederates.  I just don't know about these "protesters."   Must have been asleep in history class.)

**  Navy to remove public displays of Confederate flag, following Marine Corps lead.  (So, the Navy embarrasses self like the Corps.)

**  Confederate flag to be banned from public spaces on Navy ships.

**  Navy orders removal of Confederate flag; Army bases may be renamed.

**  Army willing to discuss renaming Fort Bragg, which was named after a slave owner and Confederate leader.

Again, I am of the opinion that U.S. military bases shouldn't be named after generals who fought against the United States.  However, I believe that since those bases have been fact for so long, those who really want the names changed should put their  money where their mouths are and pay for it.  No public money should be used.  Also, I'm not a huge fan of General Bragg.

Civil War II: Ole Miss, Marines, Army and Charlottesville

**  Lawmakers introduce bill that would block Ole Miss from moving Confederate monument.  (Of course, I would like to know if Ole Miss and other state colleges still receive state aid since they won't fly the state flag on campus.)

**  Confederate imagery now banned from all Marine bases.  (What if someone has a Confederate tattoo?)

**  The Army should rid itself of symbols of treason.

The Second Civil War: Army-Marines, Tucson, Raleigh and Whose Side is HuffPost On?

**  Army won't follow Marine Corps and rename Confederate bases.  (Glad to hear it, but I always wondered why so many Army bases were named after Confederates.  You'd think they'd be named after Union generals.)

**  Tucson council member, mayor seek removal of Confederate flags from rodeo parade.  (SCV float.  A picture of the float sure didn't appear to be a white supremacist rally.  Like waving a red flag in front of a bull, you know.)

**  The Army doesn't plan on renaming the 10 installations named  for Confederate leaders.  (And, if you'd like to know what the ten are, feel free to go to the Southern Poverty Law Center site to find out their names.  They keep close watch on anything and everything Confederate in hopes of removal.)

The Huff thinks this institute meeting is just the most horrible thing.  However, the article just thought the destruction of the Silent Sam statue was just a case of protesters voicing their beliefs and not students committing a hate crime.

**  YpsiFest move blames on disputes over parking, youth attendance and confederate flags.  (Ypsilanti, Michigan--  Excuse me, Confederate.)

**  Protesters against Sons of Confederate Veterans conference turn against police.  (Raleigh, N.C.--   The police were there to prevent them from getting out of hand and committing criminal acts.  Some didn't like that.)
