Are these UDC members the white supremacists who put up all those racist monuments BLM has warned us about? How about those Confederate veterans above them? Some mighty desperate and despicable folks if you ask me.

List of Renamed Bases-- Part 5: Fort A.P. Hill Becomes Fort Walker, Fort Fort Lee Becomes Fort Gregg-Adams

Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia becomes Fort Walker.  Renamed after Doctor Mary Edwards Walker, the first female surgeon in the Civil War and the only woman awarded the Medal of Honor.

************************

Fort Lee, Virginia will be renamed Fort Gregg-Adams, after Lieutenant General  Arthur Gregg and Lt. Col. Charity Adams.

Gregg was a key figure in the integration of black soldiers into the Army.  Adams was the highest ranking black woman in World War II.

Hey, Name Changers!! Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is!!!

OCTOBER 8, 2022

**  Pentagon spending $21 million on base renamings.  (Again, make those folks who want the names changed pay for it.

**  Military will begin renaming  bases, assets that honor Confederates.   (Again, I am not against the renaming.  Confederates did fight against the country, but for reason.)

**  You don'y have to be Southern to be a Neo-Confederate.  (New York Magazine.  There they go making our side sound like Neo-Nazi.  Far, far from it.)

**  Defense Secretary Austin orders renaming of military bases with Confederate ties.

**  Confedeate statues obscured Lexington's  black history.  Now we can celebrate it.  (Lexington Herald Leader.  Virginia?)

How Do Black Veterans Feel About Renaming Bases? Louisiana, Confederate Holidays, Virginia

JUNE 4, 2022

**  Veterans of color on  proposed ditching of  Confederate names at 9 bases.

**  Vote means 2 Confederate holidays are fading away in Louisiana.

**  'That's an outright lie.'  Discussion gets heated regarding  Confederate  statue removal.  (Owensboro, Kentucky.   It has already been removed.)

**  Virginia county moves, rededicates Confederate monuments.  (Abingdom, Virginia)

**  Busts removed from Caddo Confederate monument in preparation for move.  (Louisiana)

Still Renaming Those Bases

MAY 24, 2022

**  Bases named for Confederates  should honor women, minorities instead, panel says.

****************************

MAY 25, 2022

**  Federal panel picks Fort Eisenhower as new name for Fort Gordon.  (Georgia)

**  Fort Hood likely to be renamed  for first Hispanic four-star general instead of Confederate general.  (Texas.  New name will be Fort Cavazos.

**  Louisiana's Fort Polk could be renamed  after World War I hero.  (Renamed Fort Johnson in honor of  Sgt. William Henry Johnson, a black World War I Medal of Honor recipient.)

There are lots of articles about the base renamings.  At this point, the names are just recommendations but will likely be the new names.)

The Second Civil War: A Black Heritage Center Named After a Slaveowner? Is the Confederate Flag Racist?

There were no alerts between Oct. 14 and 19.  I was kind of hoping that meant all this was over and then I could drop this blog, but, alas, no.  The attacks continue.

OCTOBER 19, 2021

**  Plan to melt Confederate statue submitted by Jefferson School African American Heritage Center.  (Charlottesville, Virginia.  Absolutely not.  You know they would make something devoted to the Blacks.  And, why would they have the name of a horrible mean old slave owner in their name?)

**  Potential jurors in the Ahmaud Arbery case  asked:  Is U.S. Confederate flag racist?

**  U.S. honored Civil War enemies by naming  army bases after them.  Why?

**  Statue of Robert E. Lee removed from Dallas park in 2017 now  on display at a Texas golf course.

**********************************

OCTOBER 20, 2021

**  New Orleans prosecutors refuse charges against trio linked to plot to use Confederate memorial as a toilet.  (Did you really ever think they'd be charged for that.  Not possible with our current judicial system.)

**  Davidson County to replace  statue in uptown Lexington with replica Declaration of Independence, Constitution.  (North Carolina)

Civil War II: This Latest Poll May Surprise You

JULY 15, 2021

**  American electorate continues to favor  leaving Confederate relics in place. (From Morning Consult by Cameron Easely.   A poll taken.  51% of Americans say Confederate statues should remain standing.  30% say they should come down.

Republicans overwhelmingly say they should remain.

Democrats are less united., but a slim majority says they should come down.

By a 16-point margin, voters say  the Pentagon should not rename the bases.

Voters are more likely  to see the Confederate flag as a symbol of Southern pride (47%) than a symbol of racism (36%).

Interesting numbers.  Of course, we saw in Virginia what happens when removal is put to a vote.  Six places put it to a vote in November and all six times it was voted to retain the statues.  I don't think the Democrats and Blacks will make that mistake again and have it put to a vote.

They know they'll lose.

House Votes to Toss Taney Bust, Confederate Statues

From the June 30, 2021, by Kevin Freking, AO.

The U.S. House voted Tuesday to approve a bill that would remove from the U.S. Capitol a bust of Roger Taney, the U.S. Chief Justice best known for a pro-slavery decision, as well as statues of Jefferson Davis and others who served in the Confederacy.

The bill passed 285-10.  A similar bill last year passed the House, but failed to get through the Senate.

Of course, most of the voting was along party and racial lines.  Most Democrats and Blacks voted to remove them.

This is one of the least surprising votes ever to happen in that august body.

Now, personally I don't have a problem with the removal of the Confederate statues since they did fight the Union and as such gave up any right to a statue in their honor.

The sad thing though, is that I am sure most of the statues will be replaced with those of Blacks.  I'm okay with some being of Blacks, but come on, aren't there some whites that are also deserving.

The Taney bust is going to be replaced by one for a black man.

Of Flags, Statues and Congress

FEBRUARY 20, 2021

**  Man who flew Confederate flag near intersection of two Florida interstates found dead.  (Tampa, Florida.  30 x 60 foot flag on a 139-foot pole at intersection of I-4 and I-75.   The flag had been taken down temporarily in June in the wake of the Floyd killing amidst the BLM riots after threats to burn it were received.  The man's death was a result of injury from a farm animal.)

**  Isle of Wight votes to remove Confederate monument from public property.  (Virginia.  This was a vote by the board of commissioners, not the public.  The motion to move it was brought by the only black member of the board.  Like I say, all it takes is for one black person to be offended to get things like this done.  Sad.  Very sad.  Whatever happened to majority rules?  Now its Black rules.)

**  Booker, Lee announce re-introduction of bicameral bill to remove Confederate statues from Capitol.  (Booker is a black man who is U.S. Senator from New Jersey.  Lee is a black woman who is a U.S. Representative from California.  Big surprise.  They are both Democrats.  Where have we heard this before.  I wonder if the woman knows that she needs to change her last name?)

**  Lowndes Co.  supervisors take next steps in moving Confederate monument.  (Mississippi.  They accepted bids to  dismantle, store and re-erect the statue in Friendship Cemetery for $80,000.  However, I still believe that the expenses should be paid by those who want it removed, not the government.)

The Word From the Other Side: 'Best FUs to Confederate Monuments'-- Part 1

I came across this article in the Dec. 30, 2019, Blavity: News  "9 of the best FUs to Confederate monuments:  The Confederacy ain't rising anytime soon" by Ashleigh Lakieva Atwell.  She is a black person.

Blavity is an internet company created by and for black millennials.

It starts:

"The confederacy was one of the biggest failures  in American history but some white folks refuse to let it go.  They have erected numerous memorials to commemorate men who stood on the wrong side of history.  Not to mention...they lost.  The confederates were also attempting to create their own slave-holding nation so they were also traitors.  Clearly, they refused to pick a struggle.

"Over a century later, we're still fighting for the right to not be subjected to statues, flags, and other useless shit celebrating these disloyal losers.  Thankfully, there were a few brave souls who made it their mission to give the figurative middle finger to the confederacy.

"While those dummies wait for the South to rise again, here are a few of our favorite anti-confederate rebels."

She goes on to list nine examples of standing up to the Confederacy.  Just wish she knew that Confederacy and Confederate are spelled with capital "C's".  Something about being a proper name.

I will list her nine things in the next post.

We Need More Black History Markers. You Want It Gone, You Pay For It. South Carolina, Islam, UDC, Statue Removal, Jim Crow Era, Michigan Capitol and Black History Markers

FEBRUARY 7, 2021

**  Group calls on SC to discontinue  license plates  featuring Confederate flag.  (Let's see, you think it might be a black group?  Let's see.  It was CAIR, Council on American-Islamic Relations.  Not necessarily Blacks.  I wonder what they have to say about 9/11?)

**  Confederate statue in Dalton related to previous protests removed and relocated.  (Georgia.  General Joseph E. Johnston.  Moved to a private museum.  This paid for by UDC and they shouldn't have had to pay for it.  As I have said before, if you want it gone, put YOUR money where YOUR mouth is.)

**  How an ex-slave and a Confederate hero joined forces during  the Jim Crow era.  (A very interesting story about a new book about the case of a poor black farmer George Dinning charged with murder in Kentucky in the postwar South was defended by Bennett H. Young, a Confederate hero.  Well worth a read.)

**  New bill would ban Confederate flag at Michigan's Capitol.  (Introduced by a black state senator.  Also backing a bill making Juneteenth a state holiday.  Kind of racist sounding.)

**  Column:   A son of the South, here's why  I grew up to no longer  'look away' from Dixie's cruel past.

**  Black history underestimated in public markers.  (I agree with this statement.  Blacks have accomplished many notable achievements and should be recognized.  Especially those who overcame Jim Crow restrictions.

Of Course, When It Comes to Historical Markers of Any Sort, I Am All in Favor of Them.  --Old Secesh

The Second Civil War: Renaming Those Confederate Army Bases

JANUARY 4, 2021

**  Letters:  Push Confederate Polk aside,  honor Chennault, a genuine Louisiana hero.  (Fort Polk in Louisiana to have name changed.  Suggesting Claire Chennault, WW II hero. I can go for that.  I am just hoping that not ALL the Confederate fort names will be renamed after Blacks.  Maybe two or three should be so honored, but not every fort.)

**  Three Virginia bases including Fort Lee  to be renamed.

**  Veto override means Fort Lee will get a new name.   Here's the process involved in getting there.  A Congressional committee will be appointed in 45 days and they have until October 2022 to come up with a list of names.  This search process will cost $2 million.  Then it will cost considerably more to actually change the names.

**  Mississippi legislators set to finalize magnolia-themed flag.

Keeping a Confederate Monument in Mississippi Despite Black and University Vote: Another Road, Rhode Island's Name and a Compromise

NOVEMBER 9, 2020

**  Voters narrowly approve keeping Confederate statue in place.  (Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi.  51% voted to keep the statue.  There are also a lot of Blacks living in the city and county as well as a university (University of Southern Mississippi) which may account for why the vote was so close.)

**  NC Looks to take Confederate Jefferson Davis' name off highway.

**   Five states OK  measures eradicating  racist language, symbols.    (Rhode Island removed the word plantation from the state's title.  Let me know when they've gone too far.  Official name is:   "The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.  So, now the word plantation is a bad word?   Other states are removing Jim Crow laws from the books which is a good move.)

**********************************

NOVEMBER 10, 2020

**  Fairfax County has removed Confederate monuments from  its courthouse property.  (Virginia)

**  Confederate monument in downtown Dublin not being removed, plaza also to honor Herbert 'Hub' Dudley.  (Dublin, Georgia.  Herbert Dudley was a prominent black businessman and civil rights activist.  An acceptable compromise for me anyway.)

This Week and A Look Back at August for Chicago Mayhem

From Hey Jackass!  Illustrating Chicago Values site.

I put these statistics in to show that those good folks over at Black Lives Matter sure aren't doing their job very well.  This should be their major goal to stop the shootings and killings of Blacks in Chicago, but they seem to be otherwise occupied.

The sad thing is that the culprits in these shootings are almost always other Blacks.

And, we have a three-day weekend coming up, so watch out!!

WEEK IN PROGRESS  (August 30 to September 5)

15 Killed, 66 Wounded

***********************************

A LOOK BACK AT SOME AUGUST STATS:

63 Killed

3 shot by CPD, 1 fatally

Averaged 16 shot a day

59 males killed, 7 female

52 Blacks, 8 Hispanics, 3 Whites killed

5 children 12 and younger shot

73 teenagers shot, 7 fatally

Austin neighborhood led all other 'Hoods with  47 shot, 8 fatal

Hey, NBA!! Go Ahead and Cancel the Season

I don't know, but when I see multi-millionaire black NBA basketball players telling about how hard it is to grow up Black in the United States, I just can't help but smile.  After all, they earn more in one year than I did in 33 years of teaching.  AND, I am a white person.  Tell me about how hard it is.

Yesterday, led by the Milwaukee Bucks, the black players canceled the playoffs because of what happened in Kenosha last Sunday.  And, they are talking about doing the same for today.  First off, the Bucks should be made to forfeit the game.  And, secondly, who really cares about the NBA.  Very, very few people around here are even watching it.  Who cares?

And, I did not hear a single black player expressing sorrow about the five-year-old white boy in Wilson, North Carolina, who was murdered by a black man.  Shot point blank in the head in front of the boy's 6 and 7-year-old sisters.   They seem to only care when a white person kills a black person.

So, go ahead NBA, cancel the season to show your grief about what happened to young Cannon Hinnant.  Have you even heard of Cannon Hinnant?

Does anybody who supports Black Lives Matter know what they actually sand for?   To me, BLM means rioting, looting, burning, confrontation and hate crimes against statues.  They remind me a lot of a group from Germany's history called the Brown Shirts.

Whose Side Is the Media On in This BLM Thing-- Part 2

Again, the Chicago Tribune just calls this "civil unrest."

Continuing with the article:  "Mission South Chicago was one of many businesses in the neighborhood damaged in late May during weeks long civil unrest that prompted several dispensaries (what marijuana shops are called in Chicago) to close.  The bulletproof glass inside the dispensary was destroyed, some computers were taken and marijuana inventory was stole, Krane said.

"Krane declined to say how much inventory was lost, citing the company's ongoing insurance claims, but repair costs reached six figures.

"Still, the dispensary wasn't as badly damaged as surrounding stores, Krane said.

" 'There were other stores in the neighborhood that were burned.  Most of the aesthetics at the dispensary were not damaged,' he said."

And, does this sound like simple "civil unrest?"   And, nowhere in the article were there the words Black Lives Matter who were running the "demonstration" when the rioting and looting began.  They are so responsible for it and not those "outside agitators police and city officials like to refer to as the reason for the violence and looting.

For some reason, our media is trying not to connect BLM with the Riots, Burning and Looting.

What is wrong with the Chicago Tribune?

And, Meanwhile, Back in Chicago, It Was Another Weekend of Mayhem, Shooting and Murder Among the Blacks

From the Hey Jackass:  Illustrating Chicago Values site.

Instead of flocking to Chicago's beaches and looking up at the annual air show, it was "Bridges Up!  Don't Loot!!" for BLM.

Final stupidity tally for last weekend, Friday August 14 to Sunday, August 16 in Chicago:

Killed:  7
Wounded: 57

Again, most of them were Blacks. And most of those Blacks were shot by other Blacks.   At least, apparently, there weren't any children shot or killed.  This happens quite often.

The Statistics:

WEEK IN PROGRESS 8/16 to 8/22

Killed; 5
Wounded:  92

AUGUST TO DATE

Killed:  33
Wounded:  247

YEAR TO DATE

Killed:  442
Wounded:  2595

Again, this is mostly Black on Black crime.  So, it must be like the "N" word.  They can use it, but Whites can't.  In other words, they can kill other Blacks, but Whites and especially the police, can't.

And, we have another weekend coming up.  Wonder what the numbers will be?  Check out the "Hey Jackass" site to find out.

And, one last thing, not a single Confederate monument or statue was involved in any of this!

Gives a Whole New Meaning to Black Lives Matter, Doesn't It?  --Old Secesh

Black On Black Murders and Shootings in Chicago-- Part 2: A Very Bloody 4th of July Weekend

Last month, July, 578 people were shot in the city -- at least 58 of them juveniles, including a 9-year-old black boy killed by gunfire Friday (July 31) night as he played outside on the Near North Side of the city.  July's youngest shooting victim was a 3-year-old black girl who was struck while riding in her family's car in South Shore.

A day before that, the city saw the largest mass shooting in recent memory when 15 black people were shot outside a funeral home in Gresham on the South Side.

The month opened with a bloody Fourth of July weekend that saw 79 people shot across the city, 5 of them fatally.

Eleven of those victims were minors, and two of them -- 13-year-old Amaria Jones and 7-year-old Natalia Wallace -- were killed.

Again, most of the killed and wounded have been Blacks.  And they were shot or killed by other Blacks.

Meanwhile, BLM and their white minions were having their own violent riot with police at the Christopher Columbus statue, which they demand to be taken down.  Some eighteen police were injured by them.  (By the way, the statue was taken down.)

All the while, their fellow Blacks were shooting and killing each other.  Exactly how important are Black lives to an organization named Black Lives Matter?

You Just Have to Wonder.  Very Confusing Messages Here. --Old Secesh

Chicago's July Murders Jump 139% Over July 2019-- Part 1: And It Was Mostly All Black On Black, More Dangerous Than Afghanistan

From the August 2, 2020, Chicago Sun-Times.

Murders in Chicago more than doubled over what they were for July of 2019.  Shootings also increased.

And, of course, most of this was Black on Black murders and shootings.  These folks who get out there and BLM it most be confused or they wouldn't be doing this to each other. There were 105 murders reported last month, a 139% increase over the 44 in July 2019.  The 406 shooting incidents last month was a 75% increase from the 232 reported for July 2019.

Last month, no U.S. soldiers were casualties in Afghanistan.  Nor were there any casualties in June, May and April.  So far this year, U.S. deaths were 4 in January, 3 in February and 2 in March.  Total U.S. deaths in Afghanistan so far this year have been 9.

The 106 homicides in Chicago in July brought the total number of deaths for the year to 430.

You might be able to deduce that Chicago is a lot more dangerous than Afghanistan.

And, again, the vast majority of these were Blacks being killed or shot by other Blacks.  Not a single one was killed by any Confederate flags or statues.
