Central Camera in Chicago to Reopen After BLM Looted and Burned It-- Part 2
On the night of May 30, owner Don Flesch stood helplessly outside his business as it was looted and then burned.
"It lasted six hours or longer," he recalled. "I was there in front of the store watching. I couldn't do anything to stop it."
Nearly everything that wasn't taken was destroyed by the fire, Flesch said. He was able to save one camera: an antique that was sitting in a display window and he believes it to be the first one his grandfather sold.
The flashy, neon Central Camera which hangs above the store's entrance, also survived. Flesch hopes to move back into his former site by January.
After BLM looted and burned his store, his daughter and an employee started a GoFundMe page that has since raised more than $213,000. This money, plus insurance are helping Central Camera to rebuild.
