Texas, Birthday Party, Army Bases, Navy Ships and Georgia
JULY 28, 2020
** Weatherford mayor asks county to set a date for removal of Confederate monument. (Texas. Violent clashes took place there.
** Lawmaker attends celebration of Confederate general. (The Florida politician attended a birthday party for Nathan Bedford Forrest. Imagine getting in this much trouble for attending a birthday. Man, these guys just don't stop.)
** Kaine implores senators to ensure measure stripping bases' Confederate names remains in measure. (Virginia Democratic U.S. Senator.)
** Racial justice turns to Navy ships named for Confederate battles, segregationists. (That would be the USS Chancellorsville and USS Maury for Confederates and aircraft carriers USS Carl Vinson and John C. Stennis.)
** Man sues to stop Georgia city from moving Confederate statue. (Macon, Georgia)
** There are more deserving veterans than Confederate Gen. John B. Hood.
** Local view: What's 'Un-American' isn't always clear.
** Texas organizers say local police did not protect protesters. (Weatherford. I saw videos of it clash, and it is not clear who needed to be protected from who. There were bad people on both sides. generally speaking, whenever people protecting statues encounter those who wish to remove them, the protectors are really outnumbered by the protesters.)
