In the last post, I wrote about Iredell County removing their Confederate statue because of a 4-1 county commissioner vote. At this point, no one knows the timeline or cost to move the massive monument.
The county has asked the City of Statesville City Council to assist in the move. Suitable locations for removal are at Fourth Creek Cemetery and Oakwood Cemetery, bot of them owned by the city.
Also, the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 387 and the local chapter of the Daughters of the Confederacy are to be consulted on the site selection and relocation.
Then, there is a big question about the costs to be associated with the removal and relocation. Also, a question is when will funds be available for this.
Right now, it appears that funding will be provided by the county.
However, it is my firm belief that all costs involved with this project should be paid by those who want the statues removed.
