The Second Civil War: The Sugar Land 95
November 18, 2019.
** 150-year-old-precedent faces change in new, blue Virginia.
** 'It's a sham': Protests erupt at FBISD's ceremony to honor Sugar Land 95." Two years ago the bodies of nearly 100 former slaves were found. The Texas school district plans on reburying them, but there is a protest that they should be tested for DNA to find their relatives.
Fort bend Independent School District is about 30 miles south of Houston. The land had been given to the district by the Texas prison system.
** Robert E. Lee wasn't a hero, he was a traitor.
I can certainly see why the people in Texas would want testing done, but the district says they already have enough material for the testing, but out of respect would like to bury the bodies and do the testing later. However, who will pay for the testing is not known.
Although this is not an attack on the Confederacy, the protesters did claim that had the bodies been of Confederate soldiers, the reburial would not be happening.
